SCDTT. — "Cussevn.- go," writing to the Brookville Jeffersoniatt from Washington City, says: "On Tues day morning last, Colonel P. Kerr, of Clarion county, presented, in person, to General Winfield Scott, a most splendid sorrel horse, five year= old, weighing 1500 lbs , and measuring 17 hands high. The horse the General has been using is rather broken down with age, having carried hie distinguished owner, who is no light weight, for many years; so the present of your whole-souled, generous neighbor came to the wanworn, scar covered veteran in good time. The horse is a noble specimen of his race, and was raised in Clarion county, by Mr. Shoup. The General was very much pleased, and although hecannot now mount his: very well, he can use him in his carriage. Clarion county is doing very well furnishing horses for military heroes. Napoleon 111 is now riding a horse raised in that county." SINGULAR ACCIDANT.—On Monday of last week John Bougher, residing near Centerville, Crawford county, met with a most distressing accidenf, whicirresulted in his being killed almost instantly. It ap pears that he was 'engaged on a keel boat, and at the time of the accident the boat was passing down Oil Creek. When at or near G. W. McClintock's, as the boat was passing under a foot log from the shore to a derrick, Mr. Boughor was stand• ing with his side toward the log, (but not so as to EO3 it..) which was just high enough to strike his nook. As the log struck him on the side of the neck his oar struck on the opposite side, thus bringing it be twoen the two, and so instantly cutting his throat. He died in about four minutes. He leaves a family. BOY KILLED —On Tuesday evening. aboutseven o'clock, a lad of about nine years old, named John Ramsey, snn of a widow lady, was accidentally killed. He was playing, with a number of compan ions, in a oart, etanding on RDB9 street, op. posit° the steel works of Jones, Boyd & Co., when it was overturned by some means, and fell upon him, crashing him to death. Deceased was a bright, intelligent lad and much beloved. ' ELECTION RETlTENS.—Yesterday after noon's Gazette gives the vote of four com. panies of the Second Virginia regiment, by which they increase Mr. Floyd's mai. jority to 222 and give Mr. Llew a ma jority of 46 over Dr. Gross. In the last count, which left Mr. Floyd 176 ahead and gave Dr. Gross 87 over Loew, these four ; companies were included, and. also the company at Beverly, so that the fresh re turns of the Gazette make no difference in the aggregate. The eon doctor stated that G B. Miller, former!y sutler at Fort Wise, had gone South to raise troops. and move northwest with them. Major Lyndes, in command of the re leased troops under Captain Pollock, num baring 250 or 300 were passed on Wed. needay last at the Head of the Dry Fork, about 350 miles from here, on their way to the States. Captain Murtz, with his command of volunteers, was surprised about thirty miles from Fort Craig and himself, 21 Lieutenant and nine men taken prisoners. The balance of the men ran back to Fort Craig. They also captured three govern• ment wagons Captain Morris, of the rifles, with a command of four companies, is in pursuit of them. Watt's majority is over 2,600. Eleven companies have been mustered into service in New IJoxico, under Col. Gallago'a command Missouri btate Convention. ST. Loris, Oct. 11; —ln the Convention yesterday an ordinance, postponing tbo State election till the first Monday in No. vember, 1862, passed by a vote of forty• nine to one. A memorial was received from the United States Grand J,i ry, requesting the convention to declare all county offices vacant which have been hitherto filled by persons who are now known to be in the rebel army, or may be disloyal to the United States Government, such vacancies to be tilled by appointment by the Governor Additional troops went down the Iron Mountain Railroad last night. It is understood that the B.g Riv er Bridge was burned by a party of rebels from St. Francis c , unty, headed by a man named Coyce, a member of the State Con• venti o n Arrival ofthe steamer Arabia. HALIFAX, N. S., o,;t. lb.—The steam ship Arabia, from Liverpool, has arrived. Her dates are to the 6:h instant, and Suns day the Gth by telegraph via Queenstown, two days later than received by the North American at Farther Point. The steam• ship City of Manchester and Africa, from N. Y., arrived at Liverpool on the sth. An insurrectionary movement had taken place at Cyeldez, in Eu<slan Poland, and the Mayor of that piece had been killed. Mr. Lindsay, member of the British Parliament, in a speech at Cumberland, gave it as his opinion that the English gov ernment ought to urge the raising of the American blockade. and that both Eng land and France should now consider the expediency of recognizing the Southern confederacy. The financial depreciation continued in Paris, and there had been some agitation in the city owlet to the advanced price of bread. The Rebel' Batteries on the Potomac, leVe.sutriurori, Oat. 11.; An intelligent officer sap the statement to the effect that there were six miles of batteries below tihipping Point is all nonsense. Veeeels might be annoyed by batteries from the shore for a mile below there, as far as Endeesport, but below that point the Vir ginia shore recedes from the channel, and the river widens so that the batteries would be useless there. Sixteen or eighteen guns are about the extent of their armament, thereabouts. It le believed by competent judges that the Pawnee, Harriet Lane and Yankee went down the river during the night. The Anacosta has had hor boilers put aboard, and is being rap:dly fitted up. The Jacob Bell has gone into dock for repairs.
