With General TVnikine's Cossack Army advancing I from the South and the northwestern Russian forces almost within strik : ing distance of Petrograd, the Soviet | Government of Russia appears to be facing a crisis. Bolshevik head quarters at Petrograd were closed last Thursday according to a dis patch to the Daily Mail from Reval. The Northwestern Russ an Army has apparently crushed through the Bolshevik lines over a wide front. Pskov has been- captured and it is believed that the forces under Gen eral Yudenlteh have also taken the j important town of Ruga, about 85 miles southwest of Petrograd. The capture of Yamburg, 75 m'ies from Petrograd, was reported on Monday, and latest dispatches indicnte the line of advance to be nearly 125 miles in length. On the South, the Denikine troops | appear to have approached quite j near the town of Tula, which is con sidered the key to Moscow from that side. A dispatch received here says that if Tula falls to the Cossacks, the Bolshevik commissaries will flee in to Turkestan, taking advantige of a gap between the Denikine and Kol chnk forces in the Volga valley. Letts Reject Offer of Armistice Made by ' Col. Avaloff Bermondt (.'open lumen, Oct. 15. The Ret lish press bureau in a dispatch says the I.ettish command absolutely re jected the offer of Colonel Avaloff Bermondt for an armistice. It adds that the prisoners taken from the forces of General Von Der Goltz and Colonel Avalorf Bermondt were virtually all Bavarians. Six German merchant ships have been captured during the past two days by the British torpedo boat de stroyer Westcott, which took them to Heval, says the Daily Mail's Reval correspondent. "According to a report from Riga," the correspondent adds, "Colonel Avaloff Bermondt asked the 4"' es " he would obtain terms from the Retts, but the Germans imprudently fired on the Allied lieet in Riga bay. Orel Falls With Immense Booty By Associated, Press Rotulon, Oct. 15.—General Denl kine's anti-Bolshevik army has cap tured the important city of Orel, to gether with thousands of prisoners and enormous quantities of material, it was announced in advices received here to-day. Two batteries of Bolshevik artil lery fell into General (Denlkine's hands. While Orel Is 238 miles south of Moscow, possession of the city will give General Denikine a secure hold on vast stretches of territory in old Russia as the place is one of the most important railway centers south of the present Russian cap ital.
