16 LOCAL CANTEEN DID BIG WORK IVomen Fed 198,064 Men Dur ing War and Aid-the Wounded Erom October, 1917, until June, 1919, the canteen committee of the Harrisburg Chapter of the Ameri can Red Cross met 729 trains, served 198,064 men, among whom were 20,948 wounded soldiers. A report of the work of the canteen is to be made by Mrs. Francis J. Hall, chairman of the committee, who is in Philadelphia attending a meeting of workers. Praise for the co-operation of local Pennsyl vania railroad employes is given by Mrs. Hall in the report. During May of this year a record of 38,627 soldiers served on trains was established. Kinney Company, with headquarters in New York, and op erating: a chain of shoe stores throughout the country. No details concerning the death were given in the wire announcement received by the local store, owing to the death of Mr. Kinney, the Harrisburg store will be closed all day to-day. Mr. Kinney started in the shoe bus iness years ago when a boy and rose front the ranks to the head of the big institution which bore his name at the time of his death. He was a Arm believer in the profit sharing plan for employes, and one of the first to put it into effect. The large community chorus, pre paring to sing for the demobiliza tion of the community service flag, will meet on Friday evening at the Bethel Church of God. The re hearsal begins at 8 o'clock. Be tween seventy-five and one hundred persons have signified their willing ness to sing in the chorus and the direction of the chorus will be in the hands of a competent director of music. BALL PLAYER INJURED MarysviUe, Pa., June 19.—X-ray pictures taken of the injury to the right ankle of Fred Llghtner, crack centerfielder of the Marysville team of the Dauphin-Perry League, shows that the ankle Is broken. It is not believed that the ligaments or muscles of the leg are seriously Injured. The accident occurred in the game at Newport last Satur day when Lightner slid into second base. PLAN TALLEST MEMORIAL Pittsburgh, June 19.—A memorial tower 2,000 feet high, the loftiest in the world, is planned in honor of the World War heroes of Pittsburgh and Allegheny county. Henry Penny witt, chief of the local office of the weather bureau, is the father of the plan. The movement took definite shape to-day at a meeting held to consider the erection of a memorial to tbe soldiers.
