Announcement of the accumulation of this sum during the past six years in the form of a pension fund occa sioned much gratification to workers in the plants and branch houses In all cities where it was made simultan eously. It is estimated that more than 30,000 men and women are eligible, in time, to come under the provisions of the fund, which becomes active Au gust 1. One of the striking features of the plan as outlined is that the employes do not contribute to the fund, the company furnishing absolutely all money needed to pay pensions. In this, connection it is expected that Swift & Company will be called upon to pay $400,000 a year in addition to the Income from the fund, in order to meet the demands. In Chicago alone, 8,000 persons will come under the plan as outlined. The pension board as organized will con sist o"f five members who are officers or employes of Swift & Company. "Swift & Company have had a pen sion plan under consideration for over six years and during that time have accumulated for the purpose a fund of two million dollars," said Louis F. Swift, president of the company, to day. "In that time we have studied dfizens of pension plans in effect in owier organizations, both contributory and noncontributory and we believe that we have selected the best points of these and have added a number of good features that are distinctive. We have made it possible for every man and woman in our employ to provide for his or her old age simply by giving erficient work and continuous service." Points ot Plan The salient points of the plan as outlined in the formal announcement to employes follow: The employes do not contribute to the fund; income from the $2,000,000 foundation fund to be supplemented annually by Swift & Company until the fund is large enough to meet the necessary de mands; more than 30,000 employes to benefit; men in the employ of the company twenty-five years, who have reached the age of sixty may be pen sioned; men in the employ of the company twenty-five years and whc have reached the age of sixty-five shall be pensioned; women in service twenty-five years, who have reached I the age of fifty may be pensioned; . women in service twenty-five years, who have reached the age of fifty-five shall be pensioned. Employes in service fifteen year! and up to twenty-five years, who art permanently incapacitated for worh may be pensioned; pension of thos< retired on account of age and lengtl of service, or if incapacitated after s service of twenty-five years, but prioi | to the age of retirement, shall be one' half of the average salary for the fiv< years preceding retirement; pensior of those retiring on account of inca paclty after from fifteen to twenty-fiv< years of service shall be computed or a basis of one and one-half per cent of the average salary for the five-yeai period preceding retirement, for eacl year of continuous serviee; no pen sion shall be less than $240 per year no pension shall be in excess of $5,001 per year. The widow and children of an elig ible employe shall receive one-half o the pension to which an employe shal be entitled at the time of his death In their efforts to work out a plai which would be fair to all empjoyes the company have allowed employes who were working for other concern absorbed by Swift & Company in th past, credit for the full length of thei services with those concerns prior t their absorption. Th girls, acting as domestics and nurse: earned $3,978.61. The largest percentage was mad in the Ford factory of 29 boys, wh have been there under apprentice sjs tern for periods of from three to 1 months. They earned $18,562, and c this sum saved $4,640.50, or 25 pe cent, of their earnings. Five boy earned SI,OOO during the year and 2 SSOO each. A portion of all earning are turned over to the school banke to be kept until the students graduate Farming activity brought a retur of $10,729.41 to the 206 boys who er gaged in this vocation.
