Reactionary ! tendencies were again uppermost on the resumption of trading to-day, over nlghl developments, particularly in- j ternatlonal affairs, contributing to that:' end. United States Steel denoted pres- ! sure, with Initial offerings of 1,500 shares and 1,000 shares at 83% and 83%, a fraction under its recejit mini mum. War issues moved Irregularly, Crucible Steel scoring a slight advance, while allied shares were lower. New Haven. yesterday's weak feature, opened at 69. a gain of a point, im mediately falling, however, to 67. Union Pacific also lost a point, with minor changes elsewhere. Secondary quotations were lower. Professional traders, to whom to day's small dealings were almost en tirely restricted, again manifested their bearishness by more or less successful attempts to depress prices. Leading shares, including United States Steel, the principal railroads and some met als, recorded lowest quotations of the week, some falling to minimum* of the month. War issues like Slude baker, New York Airbrake, the oils and high-priced specialties, yielded 3 to almost 5 points'and Ketlilehem Steel fell 14 to 4 56. New Haven and Canadian Pacific were heaviest of the rails, with moderate offerings of Union Pacific and Erics at concessions. Vari able rallies were followed by fresh selling later. The closing was weak. Bonds were steady.
