Resignation Will Affect Fortunes of Democrats, Says London Newspaper By Associated Press London, June 10.—The Times in an editorial this morning says: "Mr. Bry an's resignation is a much more per sonal than political event. It is a dra matic incident in a highly dramatic career, but it is not the turning point, or even a milestone, in the national policy. Such political significance as it carries with it is in the main Dem ocratic and not interest. It may af fact the fortunes of the Democrats, but assuredly it will not affect the situa tion which has arisen between the United States and Germany. The Post criticises Mr. Bryan for be ing unwilling to sacrifice his personal ideals to the "honor and interest of his Country which should ()e the cause nearest the heart of a statesman." Remarking that while it was a le gend of the German press that Mr. Bryan was a bitter enemy of Germany and a strong partisan of the allies he has resigned rather than sign a docu ment he fears may lead to war with Gernlany, the Daily News says. "The truth is, of course, he never was anti-German or pro-English but always a good American and a con firm pacifist." GERMAN COLLIER SUNK Berlin, June 10 (by wireless to Lon don. 8.58 A. M.). —Only one German ship, a collier, was sunk by a Russian submarine in the naval engagement of June 5 in tho Baltic. Sea off the Gulf of Riga, according to reliable Informa tion obtained here.
