HOUSE 111 SENATE WORKOVEOTIE Adjourn Sine Die After Lively De bates Necessitating Turning Back of the Clock The Legislature of 1915 adjourned this afternoon, observing the tradi tional ceremonies. Gifts were pre sented to the officers, the Governor in formed that the General Assembly had concluded its work and the felicita tions exchanged between the houses. Both houses had to extend their sessions far beyond the legislative hour of noon, the clock being solemnly turned back when it got too close to 12. It was really midafternoon when the session closed. Action on several bills left on calen dars through amendments made yes terday and on conference reports oc cupied the Senate and House and the representatives marked their final ses sion by some lively debates, the discus sions being the most animated of the whole five months. The Senate con firmed the Public Service Commission ers and all of the rest of the Gov ernor's appointments. Senate Convenes When the Senate reconvened to-day the senators indulged in the usual complimentary addresses and In gift making incident to final adjournment. Between the speeches business drib bled In from conference committees. Among the reports received was that from the committee having charge of the bill giving equal rights in public places to all persons regardless of race, creed or color. Things had dragged along so slowly that when noon arrived, the hour for final adjournment, the Senate still had before it several bills and the matter of the confirmation of the Public Service Commission nomi nations sent in by the Governor last night. These, with other appoint ments sent in to-day came up during the early afternoon. S|>eaker in Debate The closing hour of the session of the House was marked by a brisfk passage at arms between Speaker Am bler and Mr. Kuhn, Greene, in which the latter was told to stop making false statements. The Greene mem ber had started to object to the con ference committee report on the bill regulating selection and salaries of employes of the general assembly and charged that two members were re corded as voting for the bill who were not present. Speaker Ambler declared that the meiiiber had no right to make untrue statements. Mr. Kuhn returned that he could produce affidavits. The Speaker said that the roll had been fairly and slowly called and that the conference report, not the roil call, last night was up for discussion to day. The bill passed In the form of the conference report 119 to 43. Mr. Stein, Philadelphia, then moved to ex punge M*. Kuhn's remarks from the record. Mr. Kuhn protested and Speaker Ambler reviewed what had taken place last night, remarking on the time and car»,in calling the roll. Ha was in terrupted by Mr. Ktihn and told the Greene membir to sit down until he ilnlshed. The Speaker said the at tacks on the clerks were unwarranted and was corroborated by Mr. Wild man. Mr. Kuhn said he objected to expunging the remarks but the House voted to strike them off. Kqual Rights Bill Passes The I louse adopted the conference report on the "equal rights" bill after having killed it, When It came up Mr. Stein, Allegheny, said a typo graphical error made it the opposite of what was intended. It was found that the bill could be corrected and this was done. The Speaker was boomed for "some thing higher" by W. H. Wilsan in a speech and the House vigorously took it up. The House passed several compli mentary resolutions. One congratu lated Representative Walsh on his birthday and another expressed sym pathy with Representative Haggerty who is sick. The general pppropriation bill was accepted in the House to-day when the conference report was presented. Mr. Habgood, McKean, said that $50,000 had been Inserted to take care of bills for constitutional amend ment admertislng and thanked the members. * PHII-ADKI.PKIA i-ROnOrn Philadelphia, May 20. C., May 20.—Presi dent Wilson's Impressions of the At lantic fleet, which he reviewed at New ork early this week, were set forth in the following statement Issued at the White House to-day upon the Presi dent's return: "I was greatly struck by the appear ance of the fleet and the quiet effi ciency shown by the officers and men, and I am sure every one must have been who had the pleasure of seeing it assembled at New York. There could have been no more interesting verification of Admiral Dewey's state ment that the navy was never in a better or more efficient condition anu that the country has every reason to be proud of it." PTJBIJIC SERVICE APPEALS DIRECT TO UPPKK COVKTS The Senate bill authorizing: the Pub lic Service Commission to name exam iners to take testimony in complaints at any place and appeals to be made to Superior and Supreme courts in stead of to the Dauphin countv court was passed in the House to-day by 143 jto 38. Messrs. Nissley, Dauphin and I Baldwin, Delaware, took exceptions to some provisions and Messrs. Forstor, Philadelphia, and McVicar, Allegheny, pointed out that the bill was the oniy public service law amendment of a. score to get through the Senate and discussed the relief it would afford. During the debate the clock was turn ed back so that when the House ad journed it would be norminally noon. lj | | Camp Hill Property FOR SALE 8 room house, all improvements; situated on tlip trolley at the corner of Moore and Market streets, Gar age. chicken house, shade and fruit trees, one-half to two acres of ground.
