Packard Company Has Designed New Trucks An entirely new line of motor • trucks is announced by the Packard Motor Car Company, of Detroit. The series, ranging in capacity from one to six tons, inclusive, possesses nu merous features that spell economy to the user and overcome the difficul ties formerly identified with the in stallation of worm drive. The one-ton Packard is a new ad dition to this well-known family and marks the entrance of the company into the light duty field. Each unit is designed especially for the duties required of a truck of that capacity. So carefully have the Pack ard engineers developed the new product, that it has taken three years for the forework. The preliminary trucks, during the final test, were driven a distance equivalent to five times around the earth. This mile age was established over the rough est, road conditions to be encountered between Michigan and the Rocky Mountains. The matured design which has been evolved in the new models as the re sult of ten years' experience in build ing motor trucks will, doubtless, re main substantially unchanged for sev eral years. The builders express a complete confidence in having aclheved a truck design which not only renders the maximum service with the minimum cost of up-keep but also with the minimum attention and effort on the part of both the owner and his em ployes. Evidence of the improved design of the new Packard* is indicated in their quietness of operation and their cen tralized control. The latter feature is! entirely new in heavy duty trucks and! means complete mastery of the ve- 1 hide from the driver's seat. The new models have left drive | and left side levers which provide a greater ease and safety of operation in congested terminals. The Packard motor is automatically governed to prevent overspeeding by reckless drivers and the resultant abuse of the vehicle. The carburetor is Automatically controlled and hot water jacketed while the ignition sys tem is so ingeniously protected as to be practically waterproof. Dauphin Deposit Trust Co. Of Harrisburg, Pa.
