OLDEST WAR CORRESPONDENT DEAD Londoi, June 17. Bennett Bur leigh, oldest and most widely known of war correspondents, died here to day. A Scotchman, born in Glasgow, nearly seventy years ago, ho joined the ranks of the Confederates in the I Civil War and fought through the [ entire campaign, being twice captured and sentenced to death by the North ern troQps. Later he turned to news paper work and reported a number of campaigns for a news agency. He reported thirteen wars and outbreaks all over the world. The stock mar ket was freed at the beginning of trad ing to-day from the pressure which bore down quotations yesterday. Transactions were smaller and aftor half an hour's business the market came almost to a halt. The small and irregular fluctuations of American stocks in London gave traders no lead. The list held steady at the opening, but later shaded off slightly. Lehigh Val ley was especlaly heavy, losing nearly a point. Western Union, which fell back 1%, was the weakest stock in the market.
