The undbrsigned, members of the Commit tee, do respectfully report, Hint we m the two Safes originally agreed upon by Ferrets & Herring aud Evans & Watson, placed side by stile in a furnace, via: The Sale in use by the Paymaster of the Philadelphia end Read ing Railroad Company, in his office at Read ing, manufactured by Farrela Si Herring, and the Safe in use by H. A. Lants, in hii store, manufactured by Evans & Watson, and pot in books and papers precisely alike. k The fire was started at Si o'clock, A. M., and kept up until four cords of green hickory, two cords dry oak and half chestnut top wood were entirely ronsutflbd, the whole under the superintendence of the subscribers, mem bers ol the Committee. The Safes were theo cooled off with water, after which they were opened, agd the books and papers taken out by the Committee and stun in U. A. Uvu'i store for public examination, after tbey were first examined and market! by the Commit tee. The books and papers taken from the Safe manufactured by Evans & Watson were but slightly affected by the intense heal, while those taken from the Safe manufac tured by FarrelsA Herring were, in our judg ment, damaged fully fifteen per cent, more than those taken from Evans A Watson's v Safe.
