Letter of C. G. Honter.to Com. Perry. The facts have been already stated, that t apt. Hunter is to be summoned shortly be fore a Court of Inquiry, to explain the rea son why he captured the town of Alvarado, inMexico during the late tear, in advance of orders from Coin. Perry. Capt. Hunter we see, has addressed a pretty tart letter to Cont. Perry, dated Washington, , March 1 Ith„wherein language is employed that noes not bespeak much cordiality of feeling between them. •The letter we find in the N. Y. Herald of Saturday, sent by its Wash ington correspondent. NATIONAL HOTEL. „Washington, March 11, 1850. Snt-1 . some time since addressed you a tommunication, upon which you informed Inc that it was'your intention to take official action. Why have you not done it t It is flue to your reputation as well as mine that some positive action should be immediately taken. I, hope and pray it may be personal, a but from ffiorough knowledge of your char ' tch+, I presume it will be official. Every one knows that you have never yet !ken accused of a noble or generous act, and no fano knows it better than myself. Why did i'ou come home and undermine the veteran . tonnor, and why have you not done justice to the noble and daring Taman t These are questions which I suppose you will not answer; but, sir, I will answer them for You. It was founded upon jealousy, and Without any nobility of character, you de- - tertimed to violate every ride of honor for the elevation of yourself and family. In my youth, when tryoung and inno cent boy, before the down was upon my cheek, or a malicious feeling had entered my bosom, did you, attempt to crush me to the earth by the strong arm of po‘qr. It appears, however, that this innocent boy, whom-you then tried to destroy, has since grown to manhood, that the frosts of forty odd winters now sprinkle his locks, and he stands before you erect, your equal in every thing except that military rank behind which you shelter yourself. I have not employed (as you have) any press to defend me, neither have I been so base as to apply to an enemy for a certificate against a broth ir officer, when all the information could have been obtained from those young and gallant officers who served under my corn . mand, and who then surrounded yOu. In Mexico, the price of human life is fifty cents ; what you raid this man for his false ,certificate, (dictated, I have no doubt, by , 40 'you) I know not, but would seek informa- , tion from you, if I thought you possessed sufficient honor to tell the truth. I have claimed nothing for the small afkiir of Al varado and Tlacatalpan, although I feel coo dident that if your brother-in-law, M'Kett zie. (who proposed to hang rue fur insubor .dination) or any other of your relations, had .done the same, you would have come forth to the world with a flaming proclamation, -and 'recommend him to the government or promotion. I did not, sir, demand an uncon ditional surrender of Alvarado and Tlacat- Japan without receiving it; neither did I, after making that demand, retreat, as you did, under fire of the enemy at 'l'obasco. You retreated, sir, from 'Tabasco under fire .of.the enemy, after demanding an uncondi tional surrender; and you know perfectly well that when one of the most gallant olii . cers of our navy was killed, (Charles W. Morris) it was retreating with a white flag flying at your fore mast. I have employed • no one, sir, to make me a cartoon of Alvar ado. You have been more fortunate than myself, and I sincerely congratulate you in hating one who has enabled von to place on the walls of the Navy Department your great and glorious victories. I have no Aloubt you will be handed down to posterity. .equally 'illustrious with your great and no ;hle brother, upon whose reputation you have lived so long. Itespectfully, &c. Cu times f..
