At the time of the last invasion of Pennsylvania he received the appoint ment of assistant surgeon in the U. S. Army, and joined the 107lh Regiment Pa. Yola., and while en gaged in curing for the sick and wounded at the hard fought battle of Gettysburg, disease itself upon him, and after months spent in camp and hos pital, be was transferred to the embrace of his fond parents, when, after lingering some three weeks, he took an affectionate farewell of friends, and commit ting himself to his Savior, he calmly and meekly passed from the battle-field of life, as we trust, to that world where wars and rumors of wars are heard no more forever.
