A. M. SHEARDOW2L M. D., youngest son of Rev.
Thomas S. Sheardown, aged 25 years.
Tho subject of the above notice was a young man
of rare and promising ability, having graduated with
the first honor in his profession and qualified himself
for future usefulness in life. He began the practice
of medicine at Elidiaa, N. Y., where on the first call
for volunteers, he Unlisted in tho 2C. Y. service as a
private. The hardships were too great for him, and
after suffering some three months with tho typhoid
fever he received ms discharge and came to Tioga in
in this county. There he again entered upon the du
ties of his profession and won the esteem and friend
ship of all who knew him. At the time of the last
invasion of Pennsylvania he received the appoint
ment of assistant surgeon in the U. S. Army, and
joined the 107lh Regiment Pa. Yola., and while en
gaged in curing for the sick and wounded at the hard
fought battle of Gettysburg, disease itself
upon him, and after months spent in camp and hos
pital, be was transferred to the embrace of his fond
parents, when, after lingering some three weeks, he
took an affectionate farewell of friends, and commit
ting himself to his Savior, he calmly and meekly
passed from the battle-field of life, as we trust, to
that world where wars and rumors of wars are heard
no more forever. Coif.

I do this the moio readily in regard to Hooflaads German
Bitters, prepared by Dr.C M. Jackson, of this city, because
I was prejudiced against them for many years, under the
impression that they were chiefly an alcoholic mixture. I
am indebted to my friend Robert Shoemaker, Esq., for the
removal of this prejndico by proper tests, and fur encour
agement to try them, when suffering from great and long
continued debility. The use of three bottles of these Bit

by ewdent relief, and restoration to a degree of bodily and
mental vigor which 1 had not felt for six months befor*e,and
had almost dc-poired of regaining. I therefore thank God
