He saysthal the'men of the South who fa.vor Frentqnt.are numer ous, but that they dnfo nbt make an organized movement to give force’io their sentiments, as the dominant opinion is fiendishly, intoler ant. He mentioned that he knew, personally, one gentleman’in Mississippi, a very wealthy citizen; and the owner of 200 slaves, who is an open and ardent advocate of the election of Fremont; His wealth and social position protecting him in the enjoyment of speech— giving him the especial privilege of talking ashe pleased. ’ It is gratifying to find so many slavehold ers sympalhiZ'Dg in the great Northern move ment. The natural conclusion seems’ to be that the politicians of-lhe South havo -been for many years past steadily.misrepresenting its interests and feelings. The planters and other slaveholders are, as a class much more liberal than their representatives in Congress, and being generally persons of intelligence and shrewdness,-they preceive that they have nothing to gain, but a great deal to losp, by pushing the North to extremities. Moreover, they have no such admiration for slavery as same of their Northern and Southern cham pions. Nothing but tho-lerroiam ofpoliticians and mobs prevents the organization of a nu merous and highly respectable Fremont party in all the Southern States.
