Now i bat'the trial - o£ Atrieoa is opßolu ded, and a Verdict rendered whereby the life ol roa n must be taken, in order lo carry out the laws that govern its all,it may.hot be improp er 10 say that this verdict meets with the at leßt concurrence of the great mass of com munity, who have patiently abided the pro press of the case, awaiting, with interest and feeling, its result. The trial of Arnson, du rui® its progress, is remarkable in history, from the fact that it attracted the attention of hundreds, who listened quietly and attentive jv 10 the chain of substantial and startling testimony, that directly pointed to the prison er as the person who caused the death of Isaac \llison and his wife. It is remarkable, be cause the attorneys for the prosecution ex hibited a great degree of liberality fairness lo thc prisoner. The defense candid, honora ble. ami honest, in their efforts to save the unfortunate man, and the Judge impartial, unbiassed, and unprejudiced. There are but few in this community who have investigated this case, read or listened in me trial, that are not convinced of the njrhieousnoss of the verdict, and the unqual- ified guilt of Arrison. ' DAILYiU -, SEkI.WEEKLY, $3; WEEK LY, 82. iEiriES IN ADVANCE. ’T'HE WEEKLY TRIBUNE commences - 1 - its XlVth annual volume with tho month of September—commences it with a circulation (115,. 000) larger than was ever Before accorded to any general newspaper whatever. This circulation has been, gradually and laboriously attained by concern Iraling upon THE TRIBUNE the best efforts of many editors and correspondents, and by a greater liberality of outlay in each department than waa probably ever before risked on any journal. It has bedh attained, not by sailing smoothly in the current of Opinion before the wind and basking in the smiloa of majorities, but by an earnest, fearless de votion to TRUTH and PROGRESS as above all partisan exigencies, all temporary interests, all mo. mentnry illusions of popularity and success, ITS THOROUGH ADVOCACY OF TEMPERANCE AND LIQUOR 'PROHIBITION, OF JUSTICE TO THE DESPISED AND DOWN-TRODDEN, AND OF THE EQUAL AND INALIENABLE RIGHTS OF THE HUMAN RACE, IRRES PECTIVE OF SEX OR COLOR, have from time to lime repelled many sunshine friends, whose pre judices or seeming interests were thereby contravon ed, but have combined to form a character which it will endeavor to maintain, and assign it a position among journals which we feel that it will be hence forth a success not to impair. The leading ideas to which THE TRIBUNE is devoted may bo bristly'aet forth as follows: 1. FREEDOM, to do whatever is essentially right—not alano for which Americans, or Anglo Saxons, or Caucasians even—not for one Race to determine whether they will or will not hold another Race in abject bondage—but ibr every Rqca and Nation, and every adult rational human being.— This Freedom is rightfully absolute in the broad do. main of Opinion, and involves the eqnal and impera tive right to Political Franchises; ■ 2. ORDER, or the necessary rigid of the legally indicated majority to interdict in the sphere of ac. tion all practices which it deems demoralizing, there fore prejudicial to tho common weal; 3. BENEFICENCE, or tho wisdom and policy of employing the resources and credit of (lie cam mnnity to accomplish works of general and un questioned utility to which individual means arc in adquate, or which, though eminently conductive to the public good, do not promise to reimburse, to their direct or indirect income Uio outtsy required by their construction ; 4. INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT, os thei corner stone of a true and benignant National Poli cy, counting the naturalization of a new and valua ble art or produce of the soil os more important than tho I acquisition of a fresh province or island, and equality within tho legitimate sphere of National concern and National effort; 5. PEACE, as a vital condition of true Progress to bo cherished by the most anxious, assiduous study to proffer as readily as we are prone lo jrequtre redress for every wrong, and never lo be sur rendered except at tho call of endangered Liberty- Such are the chief landmarks by which THE TRI BUNE directs its course. But a small portion of TIIE TRIBUNE is allot ted to what is currently distinguisned as light read ing; but reviews of Now Books of decided interest, with choice extracts illustrating their quality are freely given, while the great body ot our paper is devolcd to a lucid and careful digest of tho NEWS OF THE DAY, with Editorial comments thereon. We have reliable Correspondents in each quarter of the globe, and in nearly all tlio principal cities of Europe and America, and their letters will aid our readers to a clearer understanding of the causes which are now gradually.converting the Old World into one gigantic arena for the death-struggle of ri val interests, passions and ambitions- THE TRIBUNE contains reliable reports of the Markets. Our Cattle Market reports alone are worth more than the price ofthe paper to those who arc in gaged in raising and selling Cattle. No paper involving so an expense as our Weekly and Scmi.Weekty could be afforded at the price of these sheets except in connection with a Daily, nor could our Daily be sustained at its price without the tld of our Country Editors. Large as our circulation is, it would involve us in ruinous loss but for tiie receipts of Advertising. We believe that in THE TRIBUNE is realized the largest variety and extension of solid information concerning the events of*lhe day which has been or can bo com. bined with extreme cheapness; and in that faith we commend it to the favorable regard of the reading public. We offer no premiums for subscribers, tempt none to take it by gambling prospects ot win ning farms or mansions in a lottery In which tickets are furnished to its patrons, employ no tarvoling agents to importune people into taking it, and was none of our room in donning our subscribers for pay.
