It is a sor ry day for a Man, and the more so for a family, when he is obliged to give up his home 14 go drifting again over the world. No experience like this shocks the sensitive heart. All gone, all de serted. The lights shining no more in the window. The fatniliar faces no longer pressed against the panes. The fires dead and gone out. The smoke no more curling from the chimneys. The dear voices will not be heard there again, though the man pass and repass the house daily. Ah ! there is indeed no dissolation of a sort like this. "Count thumbs and all," added the neigh- bor. have,—there are ten," said the lad "Then never say you have not ten good Mends, able to help you on in life. Try what those true friends can do, before you go grumbling and fretting because you do not get belp from others." kir-The last exposed case of bounty lumping is that of a soldier who had ost one of his eyes in battle, and was discharged from the serviee. Shortly after he entered into partnership with a substitute broker in Boston, who fur trished him with a very neat glass - eye and enlisted him, and he was sent to the army. There he soon lost his eye again, or rather removed it and put it into his pocket . and obtained his dis charge. This process he several times 'repeated, and when unable to get his discharge, deserted. Unfortunately thirteen proved an unlucky number for him, and the trick being discovered, he was tried and sentenced to be shot ACENCY OF THE Dl= EAST-INDIA COFFEE CO. DEPOT 168 READE ST., NEW YORK.
