As the spring elections will Boon be here peruRal of the following Act of Assem bly will be of interest to voters : The qualified electors of each borough nd township in this Commonwealth shall, on the third Tuesday of February of each year hereafter, elect an officer to be styled Collector of taxes, whose term of olllce shall commence on the first Mon day of April next after his election. Tho Couit of Quarter Sessions shall have power to fill, by appointment, all va cancies in tho said olllce, within their re spective counties. And, if any person elected to fill said office shall fail to give bond and qualify as hereinafter provided, on or belore the fourth day of the term of aid Court next ensuing bis election the said Court shall declare his office vacant, nd appoint suitable person, resident in tho proper borough or township, to fill tho same. OATfl AND BOND. The Collector of taxes shall, before he enters upon the duties of his olllce, take nd subscribe an oth of office, and file the same in tho office of tho Court of Quar ter Sessions of tho proper county, and shall also enter Into a bond to tho Com monwealth, in dou bio the probable amount of taxes that will come into his hands, with at least two sufficient sureties; said bond to be approved by the said Court or Judge thereof in vacation, and in the office of the Clerk of the said Court. The several county, borough, township, school, poor and other authorities now empowered, and which may hereafter be empowered, to levy taxes within the sev eral boroughs and townships of this Com monwealth, shall, on or before tho first clay of August of each year after the first election of Coiloetor ot taxes under this act, issue their respective duplicates of taxes assessed to the Collector of taxes of their respective boroughs and townships with their warrants attached, directing and authorizing him to collect the samef bat road taxes may be woi ked out as here tofore, provided, that such special and other road taxes as it may be lawful and necessary to collect in money, may, at the discretion of tho Supervisors or Road Commissioners, be placed In the hands of the Collector of taxes with their warrant for collection by him; for which he shall receive five per centum of the amount col lected by him or the same may be collect ed by the Supervisor or road Commissions as heretofore. Provided, further, that the limitations in this act, as to time and re quirements hereof relating to keeping an alphabetical list of persons charged with taxes, shall not apply to road taxes. POWER OP TBS COLLECTOR. The Collector of taxes shall have all the power for collection of said taxes, during bis term of office, heretofore vested in Col lectors of county taxes under existing laws, and be subject to the same liabilities nd penalties for neglect, or violation of the duties of his office. The Collector of taxes shall provide an appropriate book, the cost of which shall be allowed to him in the settlement of his accounts, in which ho shall enter in al phabetical order the names of all persons charged with taxes in the duplicates afore said, and showing the amount of such taxes charged against each person, which book shall be at all times open to the in B ection of each taxpayer, and shall be delivered by the Collector of taxes at the expiration of his term to his successor in office. Where any duplicates of taxes assessed is issued and deliverod to the Collector of taxes, it shall be the duty of said Collect or to give public notice as soon thereafter as can be conveniently d'-ne by at least ten written or printed notices to be posted in as many public places in different parts of the township or borough, that said du plicate has been issued and delivered to him; end all persons who shall within sixty days from the date of said notice make payment of any taxes charged against them in said duplicate, shall lie entitled to reduction of livo per centum from the amount thereof; and all persons who shall fail to make payment of any taxes charges against them in said dupli cate for six months after notice given as - aforesaid, shall be charged five per centum additional on the tuxes charged against them, 'which shall be added thereto by said Collector of taxes and collected by him.' HALL HAVE REOULAR DAYS. The Collector of taxes shall, in person or by some person duly authorized be in attendance for the purpose of receiving and receipting lor taxes on Thursday, nday and Saturday 01 each week, dur ing the last two weeks of said sixty days between the hours of 2 o clock and " 6 o'clock in the at'tomoon, at Ins residence, or some other place in tho proper town ship or borough, to be designated by him in the notice aforesaid. The Collector of taxes shall collect the taxes charged in said duplicates and pay over the same to tho respecti"e T easur- era or authorities entitled thereto, after de ducting his commission for the collection uiereoi, wuicu is nerenv iixea at two tier centum on all taxes paid to him on w hich u abatement of five per centum is al lowed, and at five per centum on all tax es afterward collected: Provided, that where the total amount of taxes charged on a duplicate, is less than one thousand uoiiars, me saiu uolleclor shall receive ttiree per centum on ail taxes paid to him on which an abatement of live per centum is aiiowe'i. Exonerations mav be made bv the an thorities and in I he same manner as here tofore. The ai!oou:its of Collectors of tax es shall bo settled by township or bor ough Auditors of the proper township or borough, and he shall Mate a separate Be count for each different tax Collector by him; but Collectors of county and State taxes shall settle with tho County Com missioners as heretofore. Taxes charged upon unsettled lands shall not be collected by Collectors of tax es, but shall be certified and returned by the several authorities levying the same to the County Commissioners, to be col-iw-i 1 as heretofore. Jons Sherman will go back to the U. S. Senate, thanks to a level-headed constituency . Tbe Republican mem ber! of the Obio Legislature met in caucus oo the 7th inst., and unani mously noroioated him, no other Dame being mentioned. Tbe election takes place to-day, (Tuesday,) but owing to beiog a day early with our paper we are unable to give the vote. January Meeting of Stow Post. Tost assembled Jan. 6, 1886. A resolution signed by five mem bers was read, to abolish tbe By-Law which provides for an assessment of $1.00 on the death of a comrade, as m tho recent act of assembly passed on that subject renders the by law of no value. Tbe Adjutant asked for fur ther time to report on the organization of tbe Woman'a Relief Corps, which was granted. Installation of officers for the year 1886 being iu order, installing oflicer D. S. Knox proceeded with bis duties and installed the following officers : Commander, J. V. Morrow. S. V. Cum., O. V. Bovard. J. V. Com., J. B. Eden. Officer of the Day, S. S. Canfield.
