For Assitoiato Judge, lion, joiix a. proper. For District Attorney, 1. M. CLARK, Esq. Candidate t)av will not make sny stump epeeches. He is a sensible man. Talking ngaiust a Uepublican majority of 81,000 would be about aa useless as whispering to a cyclone. George William Curtis while da clariog that civil service reform start ed with the Republican party makes a ery feebta apology for having voted the Democratic ticket last fall, and almost promises that he will Dot re peat the folly. The news comes by way of Macon, G., that Governor Paltison says "Philadelphia can elect Day as .State treasurer." The Governor is right Philadelphia can elect Day. It is not likely, however, that she will do any funny business of that sort this season. The dog days are over. Phila. Press. Chairman CoorER'a circular in .viting Government clerks to contrib ute to the campaign fund has pro vokeb a clamor loud enough to enable Chairman Hensel to issue a similar invitation in behalf of the Democratic fund without being ovarheard. The holy horror with whieh the Democrats jfirofess to regard Chairman Cooper's action indicates a virtue which pro tests altogether too much to be above -suspicion. Is view of the iact that a leading .-Spirit of the Standard oil company dominates President Cleveland's cabi net; that there are Standard oil com pany democratic senators from Ohio and West Virginia ; thnt the princi ple owner of the New York Central, Vanderbilt, is a democrat, and that nearly all the principle officers of the Pennsylvania railroad are democrats, it must require some gall for the dem ocratic party of Pennsylvania to plume itself on being the "anti-monopoly" f arty , Cratvford Jourtud. . That Mysterious Case Explained. The following explanation of the strange Jeath of Fanny Squibbs, pub lished in our paper last week, we find '-in the Oil City Blizzard: . Soon after the publication concern ing her death, Mr. James Leasure, of .Kittanning, visited Verona, announc ing himself the brother of the dead woman, whose maiden name was "Dot' Leasure. The gentleman told ?tbe following history of her life : She -was born at Pigeon postoffice, Forest county, in 1861, and resided with her rparents on a farm for eighteen years. "In 1879 6ho visited her brother in iKittanning, and while there fell des perately in love with James Cunning ham, whott ehe married in opposition l the w 16I108 or ner mends und rela tives. It w&a a case of marry iu haste and repent at leisure, lie neglected her and so ill-treated her that she was forced to return to th)' home of her parents. About foif months apo she again visiteOaf.' Leasure in Kittan niug, JKff3 then left, ostensibly for bonSr When Mr. Leasure saw the recount of her death he wrote to his mother, and finding that his sister had not gone home, at once concluded that the dead woman was she. He says that when at home she was a good conscientious girl. lie had her re mains removed to the family lot, and took the surviving child to his mother, who, he says, will cherish it as its own mother would have done.
