Tho Republican Primary Elections if Forest County for tho yeur 1881 liave come and gono, ami the result, we hava no hesitancy in saying, ia sat isfactory to every liepnblican iu the county. Kever have wo witnessed a canvnss for tho nominations in the county which -has been carried on with such good feeling and uniform courtesy among the different candidates rud their friends. Vv'e have yet to hear of the first word that lias been spoken in disrespect t9 any one. Tho candidates did their work fairly and squarely, never buca allow ing bitter feelings to enter into the canvass. Harmony and good will were tha order of the day mid these were maintained throughout. This is indeed a pliawnt reflection. The ticket which we place at the head of this column cannot but be a source of pleasure and pride to every true lie-, publican of Forest county. It gives us pleasure to say tuat there js not a man among them who cannot com ; mand the hearty and conscientious ; 6upport of every Republican in the county. "We have not time at this , writing to speak of the fitness of the men fr tho offices in detail, but this i we can say without hesitation, that while the defeated candidates were all worthy, those whom th? lot has fallen j upon are men of tueh chaiacter as will . make theru as much an honor to the offices as the offices caii be to them. There are few men who do Dot regret ine aereat ot a personal Jnend, yet we must know when we enter into a can-' ; vass that defeat mubt come to some and be prepared to accept it if it fall to our lot. Tho defeated candidates are disposed so far as wo have been able to learn from them personally, to accept the situation philosophically and cheerfully, feeling that the major ity willed it so, and are ready to give the ticket a hearty support. In conclusion we can say with a clear conscience and without fear of successful contradiction that the ticket is a splendid one, without a vcak spat in it from top to bottom, ind we should now all wbrk for its success in the fall. ,: THE REPUBLICAN CONVENTION. , The Convention of Return Judses if tho Republican Primary Eleclions fl'orest County met at the Court ! Louse, in Tionesta, yesterday, in ac cordance with the rules of the party, U 2 o'clock p. m., and was called to- jrder by Chairman Jamieson, who jreifiueu over the same. John Thorn ion and J. E. Wenk-werb elected Sac etaries. The first thing in order was iie canvassing of the votes. The nre dncts were called in alphabetical rdcr and the Judges handed iu the eturns which were counted and the ; esult announced by the Secretary I'ha result showed that the following : gentlemen had duly received the nom nation for tho different offices to be ( died next November, and they were , eclared the regular nominees of the - lepublican party by the Chairman i 1'rothonotary, Register, Recorder ic. The Convention was perfectly harmonious, and the best of feeling prevailed throughout. TlIK COMMITTEE MEI'TING. Tho committee was called to order and Mr. Chas. Banner was elected temporary chairman, and J. E. Wcnk Secretary.' Mr. Bonner stated that tho object of the meeting os he under stood it was to elect a chairman for the ensuing year. After a few friendly remarks ii which all preseut were heard, the name 'if Prof. II. S. Brock- wey was presented by Mr. Chas. Grif fin, of Harmony twp., aud he was unanimously election. Mr. Brockway was apprised of his election and came in and thanked the Committee very kind ly for tho honor they had bestowed upon, and pledging himself to use his best endeavors for the election of the entire ticket in November. It was a fitting and deserved com pliment to Mr. Brockway to elect him Chairman, and his selection, so unani mously bestowed, wo have e-ery rea son to believe will give entire satisfac tion to all parties. He is well ac quainted throughout the county and will without doubt conduct the can vass in a highly satisfactory mariner. Let us all, Republicans, lend a helping band, and victory is ours inNovcmbor sure. After tendering a vote of thanks to tho retiring Chairman Jamieson for the efficient services rendered in the last campaign the committee ad journed to meet at the call of the Chairman. t gj- Pitney, the chap of bad odor, has from time to time thrown out hints and inuendoes as to the complicity of high individuals in tho last cabinet beinjr criminated and has' let the impression go forth that Senator Sherman dare not et him be punished, for tear of conse quences to himself. When brought upon the stand and ordered to tell all io knows, by the request of Senator Sherman, he takes refuge behind the law not compelling a prisioner to con vict hiiuaelf, refuses to bo sworn, but says bo is willing to be questioned. It is stated that theie is no law which will compel him to take an oeth against his will. Under such circum stances it is probable he will escape the peuitentiary. Of course his mere verbal statement on the subject would be of very trifling worth. It is a pity that such fellows lava the power to falsify against great men and escape to their slimy dsns unharmed. Derrick, s The Republicans of Jefferson county, at their primaries on the 11th inst., nominated tho following ticket: President Judge, A. C. White ; Pro thonotary, Register and Recorder, J. G. Tho central point of interest at Al bany now appears to be more tho ex amination of witnesses in the alleged bribery case than the election of Sena tors. All this week the attention of the Legislature has been divided, and it can now be considered certain that before Senators can be elected, the present investigations must be comple ted. Upon its result will rest tho case. If it be proved that there has been bribery on the parts of the auti-Conk-lingites they cannot elect their mcu. If the whole thing proves without foundation, the Conkling men will, of couise, be l'opelessly defeated. The Census offico clerks w ill be paid off to-morrow for the last time until they get a big lump when Congress shall provide funds. It is well organized nud will do good work. There is new interest awakened here in tho Treasury investigation. Secre tary Windora has returned homo, ex amined the report of tho Investigating Committee, but refuses to'make it pub lic. Now this is very aggravating. Hero are a lot of rascals found in the Treasury ; their rascalities are proven and tho public must not kiimv what they are. I think Secretary Windora, in mercy, should let us know just what kind of a jig has been danced in that department since President Hayes took his seat. It is known, however, that considerable amounts of the miss ing money have been returned to the Treasury by Washington merchants. A Chicago admirer of Mr. Conkliug, here from a visit to New York, insists that Conkling will bo returned as Sen ator, whether Mr. Piatt is or not, and represents the latter as entirely willing to give up all chance of bis own re turn to secure that of his friend. Mr. riait, it is said, makes from 623,000 to $30,000 per year in his business and is not in the least r.n aspirant for political honors. The Star route prosecutions are going to be pushed. Additional coun sel will be employed. The govern ment witntsses will be asked to go before the Grand Jury by tho end of next week, and it is hoped that body will act finally in tho matter by the middle of July. There is one great lawyer who is thoroughly familiar with every detail of the case, and who is pre eminontly Gtted by reason of his knowledge and ability to direct the trials. Attorney-General MacVeigh is the name, and it is reported that be will conduct the prosecution in person. Phil,. KANSAS LETTEH. McPiierson Co , Kas., Juno 17, '81. Our county has had another arrival from Forest county, iu tho person of Mr. David Zuck of Tionesta Twp. We hope be may find it convenient to lo cato in this vicinity. We will be glad to welcome more of our old Forest friends. Harvest has just commenced and as usual everybody is busy ; wages are good, and wheat looks quite well. We had the pleasure of attending the wedding of Mr. Samuel Non is, of this couuty, and Miss Lou Range of Forest county, on tho 15th inst. The happy couple start out with unusually bright prospects on their voyage of life. Mr. Norris is an energetic aud promising young man, and more of Forest Co.'s girlsmight do well to fol low Miss Lou's example.
