Rue, of Corry, committed suicide near Centerville, on Friday last, by shoot- ing himself in the headVith a pistol. Rev. Elliot is this week moving into the old Col. Thomas house, on the river bank. Object, more room and less rent. An argument court is to be held here on Monday next. We koow of no business of ceaeral interest to be transacted at this court. A good many of our citizens have already commenced the business of raising spring chickens. The eggs would get a hard racket on Saturday and Sunday nights, --Professor Monday has good-sized classes of musical pupils in Pleasant ville, at Pitbole and at intermediate Doints. He is a skilled musician and a thorough teacher. Gold remains on the edge of par, and our country just now soetus to be in a good state from a financial point of view. Now if Congress could just be induced to let the old thin? work itself awhile I Mr. C. E. McCray has moved into the Tionesta House at the mouth of the creek, and will open it for the ac cominodation of the publio immediate ly. A portion of the public patronage is reipectfully solicited. The hens are getting their work in, just now, and the result is that our ttores are full of eggs, and the prices thereof are eetting considerably re duced. We believe they command only ten cents per dozen at present, The Odd Fellows have moved into their new hall in the Partridge Buil ding, and the next meeting of the Lodge, on Friday evening, will bo held there. The new hall is in every way fitted for the purpose intended. It will be lawful to catch trout on Monday next, and from then until the 1st of August. If there happens to be good sleighing when the season commences we would advise fishermen t wait until the snow melts. Our early gardeners have got their lettuce, peas, and little onions in the irround. and as the frost will not harm them the c. g.'s look complacent and feel composed, notwithstanding the severe weather of the past few days. Those of our people who shed their wiuter. iuderclothes during the late soft snap, have all resumed them, and several with the addition of a bad cold. It is never safe to dispense with these earmeuts until the middle of May. A key. which seems to be a door keey, was found by Parker Grove, on Friday last, on the point of the hill back of Hunter's Mill, where it had doubtless been ' lost by some of our nitreon hunters. The owner can have a o it by applying at this office. A law has been passed in New Jersey to prevent the shootine of pigeons from traps, and providing heavy penalties for the violation of the law. The Forest and Stream is of the opinion that the law-makers are afraid af the pigeons might fallout of bounds into the United States. Mr. G. W. Bovard has rented the Samuel Clark House, on Vine Street, next door to the place where he has been living for a few years past. He baa rented the property for one year, with the privilege of leasing for a num ber of years or buying. I he bouse is a good, comfortable structure, and will give George room according to his strength. - Hon. John Allison, Register of the Treasury, a citizen of Pennsylva nia, died of apoplexy, in Washington, on Saturday last Jle was the Ilepub lican candidate for U. S. Senator against Wallace, and was a first-class man in every respect, and bis death is a loss not only to the Commonwealth, but to the whole nation. The business of trapping pigeons has assumed remarkable proportions in Forest County. Somewhere from one to two dozen gangs of trappers are at present operatiog.in the county, and among them they are bagging immense numbers of pigeons. Up to the pres ent time there have been nearly, if not quite seven hundred dozen pigeons shipped from this station to New York Boston, Baltimore, and other points in the east, and all this since last Satur day morning. Yesterday a wagon load ca.Tie in from Marienville, which contained 245 dozen. The load was weighed on Haslet's scales, and footed up 2,950 lbs., after deducting the weight of tho wagon. This would make the pigeons weigh nearly a pound apiece. It is said that the pigeons are nesting near Tommy Nugent'a iu Jenks Township. It is to be hoped that tbay will not be disturbed iu or near their nestiog 'places, as this is clearly against the law, and will prob ably get any one into trouble who tries it. The April number of ThcNurtery is to haud, containing its usual amount of healthy and instructive contents for the children. It is invaluable as a children's mngazine, and we would con sider the investment of the oubscrip tion price, $1.50 a year, a good one for any family in which there are children. Address Jno. L. Shorey, 36 Bromfield Street, Boston, Mass. An attempt was made to burn the business portion of Tidioute, on Satur day morning last, between 3 and 4 o'clock, a fire having been started in a room in the rear of Acorob's drug store. It was extinguished before any damage was done. An investigation showed it to be the work of an incen diary. oome of our exchanges bad gone so far as to hazard the assertion that spring had come, when, on Saturday night the Clerk of the Weather ar ranged a little programme embracing a few days of wintry weather, which has been carried out to the letter. Sunday, especially, was a cold, snowy, blustery and disagreeable day. The Standard Oil Co. endeavored last week to have their case removed from Butler to . the U. S. District Court, but the Butler County Court decided that it was itself equal to the occasion, and would try the case. This is considered one poiut in favor of the plain tiffe. .
