DUNJf its ranks, men who desire to do right, and who earnestly seek through their votes and influence to advance the interests of their country. But they are in a hopeless, minority, powerless to control the bad elements which ex ert a controlling influence in the Dem ocratic party. Honor, patriotism, re spectibiiity, intelligence, are the ex ceptions in Democracy, while in the Republican party they are the rule. Rascals will creep into the best or ganized Bociety. They will get into the church, the best protected orders, the family circle. Thev are not in vited, but they come under tho guise of honor, and are known only when thoir acts betray them. Such men are discovered from time to time in the ReDublican party, but as soon as known they receive the lash of indie nation, or if criminally guilty, the penalties laid down in the law. They have never been sheltered by the par' tv. and thev never will bo. AVhcnev er. or wherever discovered, they will have meted out to them the punish' meut they deserve. This is all that any human organ iza Uon can do. We should expect no more from a party; we should be sat iSeJ with no le. To search out and punish the deliuqucnt, to ignore the wnvorthr. to turn a cold shoulder to tlio who would use the party to pro mote tlxMr own eelSsh purposes.should b lh obtect and aim of true Repub lican. Uur rants are uiieJ witb no ble characters, men of publio and private virtue, whose names have be come household worvis in the locali ties where they reid. To brin them to the front, to nominate them lor of fice, to select them as leaders, is to write victory on our party banners. Let this important duty be performed. The speech of Senator Thurman, of Ohio, which was to bo the great eveut of his life, and an oratorial ef fort which would equal the best pro ductions of e biter or Clay, bas not worked exactly as was anticipated. It has eQVctuaUy squelched him, so far as Prcsidtfiiliul anpiraiions are concern ed, and is everywhere denounced as tricky and cowardly. Kveu the New York Tribune gives him up, as weak kneed, And lime-serving. Alas! poor TluiruiAul Pendletou triumphs at last. riUKKr'oiut, Pa., Aug. 7.
