Wednesday, Sept. 1st, id the outside limit. Don't delay. - The Democratic: primaries "will take place at the usual places of hold ing elections, on Saturday, tha 28 ih iust. , . : Sr The Sunday ScIujoP Assembly nt Fair Point, Chautauqua Lake, is large ly atteuded, and the exercises are said to he very interesting. The Kentucky State election has gone Democratic. Burks county, in this State, will undoubtedly go the same way in November. Argument Court is in session. Courpoflvened yesterday. No busi '.ness of goneral interest is being trans acted. Will probably adjouru to-day. Ou account of the press of mat ter occasioned by the primary elec tions, we have neither room nor time to comment upon the nominees. They .are all good men, however. Will give thorn a lioit at some future time. Rev. Newell, who delivered a ser mon in the Freshytoriau church, in this place some two years since, was .thrown from a carriage, in Franklin, on Sunday afternoon lust, sustaining a fracturo of the collar bono, and dis location of the shoulder. Through an oversight, we neg lected last week to notice the fact that Mr. David Walters, of Newmanville, ff.ther of Mr. Daniel Wallers of this place, died on Wednesday evening 28th ult. lie was one of the oldest settlers in this region, and was a good citizen. '-. W. P. Finley, of Salem township, accepted the call made on him by voters irrespective of party, aud con sents 10 becomo a candidate for State Senator from this district. If nomi nated he will be a credit to this dis trict, aud will make a vigorous can vass. Clario 11 Republican. The Republicans of New York manifest confidence in their ability to carry that State this Fall. It seems like a desperate venture with the cities of New York acd Brooklyn in Demo cratic hands, but they are encouraged und confident. The causo is worthy Iho effort. The board of school directors iu JIcKcan Co., which iaisd the salary of the Co. Supt. to $2,000 per annum, And whose action in so doing was de nounced by the State Supt., met again on the 27th ult., and, after a stormy session, reduced the salary of that of ficer io 11,000 per annum. Better late than never. Some of our gamios amused them solves a low evenings since by stretch ing a wire across the sidewalk, just Itigh enough to trip pedestrians. We heard of no one being hurt, but these chaps w iil not find it so funny, should they succeed iu injuring any one. We iiopc the cnustablu will keep u sharp look outj'or t ho young rascals. Meeting of the County Committee. Tionksta, Aug. 10, 1875. . Committee met in Arbitration Room of Court House, at 7 o'clock, p ra. Messrs. D. Graham and A. B.Kelly were elected Secretaries of, tha meet ing. Roll called. All present except Messrs. Duscnbury, Allison acd Coon. On motion, Messrs. Heath, Qreen and l'earsnll acted in place of the absent committeemen. Moved that thf, Rules adopted Aug. 15th, 1874, remain the rules to govern the Republican party in Forest Co. Carried. Moved that the place of holding the primary elections in Upper Har mony be changed from White Oaks to the Setley school house, on Fleming Hill. Carried. The Committee then proceeded to the election of a chairman for the en suing year. Moved that the candidate having the least number of votes, be dropped, after each ballot. Carried. J. T. Dale, of Tionesta was duly elected Chairman of the county com mittee for the ensuing year. On motion, adjourned. Ga'lrctaries. The following gentlemen were elected by the Republican voters of the various election districts of Forest county, as members of the Republican County Committee for the ensuing year. Burnett, W. R. Tionesta twp., C. W. Clark. Trunkeyville Items. Messrs. Grove & Wolcott have becu having rather bad luck with their well near this place ; first losing the tools in the well by the breaking of their cable, then, after fishing them out, getting their eoud pump stuck. The sand pump was takeu out last Friday, since which time operations have been resumed with favorable prospects. Our school closed on Thursday last, with but small attendance; only some six or eight scholars being pres ent. The primary elections at this place, on Saturday last moved off smoothly, being somewhat lubricated by beer, &c. After the vote was counted, the members of the board, with one exception indulged in a sup per at the Peterson House. . John. We notice thut Mr. Corbet, Dem ocratic nominee for State Senate, is announced in the Forest Press. If the gentleman proposes to run at the Democratic primary elections in this county, it strikes us thut he is getting somewhat nut of bounds. It is not customary for parties from other coun ties to contest the election with any county where there is a home candi date, nor, is it iu good taste. It is perfectly right for Mr. C. to endeavor to get second instructions, but it is an unheard of innovation to lot his name go before the Democratic primaries of this county in opposition to the home candidate. The Clarion county Dem ocracy, however, were pever noted for their extreme delicacy in political mutters, geuerally wanting all district offices, and a good share of the time talcing them, as .the Irishman says, "whether or no." It's none of our funeral, but we like to see the square thing iu all that appertains to Forest county. The Democracy of Clarion coun ty are troubled with a fight on the Prothonotary question. Mr. Conser, the defeated caudidate, claims that he received more votes thaa Mr. Barr, aud should have been declared the nominee instead of Barr. He is backed up by several influential Dem- crals, who refuse to be quieted unless justice is done. The end is not yet. T. J. Payue has sold out his mill and contract io Warren county, and has moved back to bu old homestead near Newmanville, Clarion county. From the Lett information we can get, Mr. Payue is ouo of the beet lumber men in this region. Glad he's got so near us aj'uin, and only with he were' u citueu of Forest countv. An old woman, who was undoubt edly cray, was observed paseieg through town, up the middle of Elm street, on Saturday afternoon last. She was a horrible looking object, be ing about half nude, and very filthy. She meddled with no one, and went directly out of town, and no measure were taken to ascertain who she was, or where she was from. The Cincinnati Commercial states it after this fashion : "Those great Democratic statesmen, Cary, Allen, Ewiug, .Pendleton, and so on, ask of Ohio Republicans that they shall pot the Democrats into power because they have a patent-right invention for making money plenty by simply issu ing legal-tender notes without any promise of redemption," Mr. S. J. Wolcott, of De Witt ville, N. Y., was in town last week, on business, combined, we suppose, with pleasure. He reports his family all well, and contradict the report that his son-in-law, Z. T. Hhriver, is very sick. Mr. 8. was a little sore for a few days, on account of a wrench re ceived while lifting, but has never bad to quit work a day, on account of it. Mr. Dnniol Harrington called, upon us last week, and deBired us to say in our next issue that the commu nication written by him, and publish ed iu tho Forest Press, derogatory to Co. Supt. Brockway, was all wrong, and shouldn't have been written. This action on the part of Mr. HarringtoD is commendable, to say the least. All are liable to errors, but how many of us are willing to confess our errors when they are shown us? We notice by some of our ex changes that one hundred shares of the second preferred stook of the Re no Real Estate Company sold at par in the New York stock exchange on Wednesday last . The first sales of this stock in New York were made about two months ago at $50 per share, since which time it has gradual ly advanced to par. This will be good news to some ci I ire as of this end of the county, who hold shares in said company. Camp meeting is going-on at Lickingville, and is well attended. On Sunday several of our young peo ple, and some of the older ones attend ed the meeting. As fur as we could learn, perfoct order was observed, and from the preparations that were made previous to the sue'eting, we don't be lieve there will be any attempts to dis turb the worshippers. Mr. Carpenter folded bis tent on Monday, and will take pictures of those wishing them, ou the ground. Some weeks ago we published a statement relating to a precious stone or diamond, found by John Ruland, of Pine Grove, which was extensively copied. Mr. Ruland is in correspon dence with parties in New York, and has received f 100 installment on the specimen sent them, with a promise of more Boon. Mr. Ruland keeps the matter iu a mysterious way, for what purpose none can determine. The brilliant stone is pronounced to be crytalized quartz by some. If so, the piece sent to the chemist would be worth but a trifle, far less than the amount already paid ; and there is more promised. Warren Ledger. As we have several members of the old Penn'a Reserves in this county, we publish the followiug for their in formation : - Tho subject of attending the Cen tennial in a body is being agitated among the Pennsylvania Reserve Association. The suggestion has been thrown out that those members of the Association residing in Western Pen nsylvania appoint some place as a ren dezvous say Pittsburgh where every provision cau be made iu the way of camp equipments, and march to Phila delphia over the old wagou route. Regimental and company organiza tions within the Association, and indi vidual member? thereof, in the eastern part of the State, can make prepara tions to join those from Western Penn sylvania at such points along the route at may be convenient, so that when the column shall reach Philadel phia the entire Association, excepting the members residing in that city, will be iu line. At some point outside the city the Philadelphians could join their comrades. A meeting of representatives of the various organizations in the Associa tion will be called ere long to take aotion ou the above suggestions. Commercial.
