Buckalcw for Governor, on the seventh ballot. Mr. Buckalcw was born in Columbia county, Pennsyl vania, December 28, 1821 ; adopted the profession of law, and was admit ted to practice in 1843. He is au un compromising party man and will daw only a party vote. Wm. Hartley of Bedford was nom inated for Auditor General. Ho is a dyed in-the-wool Democrat, but com paratively unknown. Richard Vaux, of Philadelphia, James 11. Hopkins of Allegheny, and II. B. Wrig'it, of Luzerne, were nom inated for Congressmen nt large. The resolutions ns adopted contain nothing but an indorsement of Jeffer son's inaugural and Jackson's farewell declaration; that the election of Buck alcw will securo at onco a correction of nil existing evils, and tho condem nation of grants of charters by the Radical Legislature to tho South Im provement Company and like corpora tions. Tho resolutions were tamely re ceived and failed to elect even ordina ry applause. Tho following were chosen delegates to the National Convention: James r. Barr and John II. Bailey were cho sen Senatorial delegates from the Twenty-second District, aud V. II. Stevenson, elector: Col. David Camp bell aud P. II. Winston, delegates from tho Twenty-third District nnd John T. Baird, of Butler elector. It was agreed that the delegates from each Senatorial district name one member of the State Central Commit tee, and the Chairman of the Conven tion, iu conjunction with the nominees, to select the Chairman, of the Slate Committee. Adjourned. BRIDGE. They are having trouble about that bridge at Tidioutc, the one which was going to throw all the trade of Forest and Clarion counties iuto that place. In the meanwhile, our bridge, which will be a great accommodation to the public generally, but which it is Mot supposed will give us all the trade of Warren county is progressing rapidly, timer the energetic management of Messrs. Bell & Breckenridge. The bridge ruction in Tidioutc, according to the Oil City Derrick, lias taken the following shape : ri-i , ineyiiau a tiinrter, company or ganized and stock enough subscribed to warrant them in going ahead. They enlarged their ideas and decided to build a bridge worth $10,000 more than first proposed. 1 Ins amount they asKea me propeity owners ou the op posite side of the river to subscribe, The owners couldn't seo it. They thought the bridge was sure to be built and kept their money. Lot thev nn mediately put up the price of their land to 1.500 per acre worth sa ll 8100 without the bridge. Good bail ing lots over there, you see. The Jour nal mav tell the rest: The Bridge Company met to take action on the incrense of stock neces sary to build tho bridge, and voted not to increase tho stock, unless those property owners that were to be so ini mensely benefitted, would contribute liberally to the bridge. They do not ask money, but a donation of land.say some ten acres, in alternate sections, at the advanced rates. Now, here comes the hitch : the owners aforesaid do not seem willing to donate the land, and tho bridge company will not build unless some arrangement can be made to cover this point. As far as we understand it, mis is me present status of the question, aud we are tol erably sure that no bridge will be built unless something ot the kind is done. The simple justice of the proposition must at once strike all, as it is not fair nor right that property shall be raised immensely without the cause of that advance reaping some benefit therefrom. Tho Richmond, Virginia, Enquir er says: "Personally General Grant has many frienls in tho South among our people. Yet thoro is not one of these but would feel insulted were ho asked to lend his aid to re ward the victor for having conquered the South. The objection to General Grant on this score would lie against any other leading oflicer of the North ern army who contributed to our de feat. With Mr. Gree ley it is quite another thing. He was not iu power and he used all his Influ ence, first, to permit the South to depart in peace, and afterwards to 6cttlo the difliculty upon nny terms that were honorable alike to both sections. Ev ery Conl'edrate soldier in tho South can vote for Greeley without feeling thnt he has made out gtterifiee of his principles or manhood." . The following is the closing para graph of a letter recently written by Wendell Phillips, which contains the whole matter in a nutshell : "For a loyal administration to pro tect the negro, awe the rebel, and give the workingninn a chance.Gnint's little finger is worth a baker's dozen of Greeley's. Yours. "Vj:nm:i.i. Tho troublo is he treats them too well aud they imposo on his generosity. Also mat tne last issue of tho Wm- ocral was printed by steam, which marks a new era in newspaper priut ing in Clariou county. On Saturday 2oth ult., in the Court of Common . Pleas, Philadelphia, Judges Allison, Ludlow, Pierce, Pax son and Fiuletter, sat to give judge ment on the constitutionality of the Local Option law, nud they decided tho law to be constitutional. JiuIl-h Ludlow alone dissenting. Tho Court held that a statute can certainly bo made conditional, nnd "it is of no moment whether tho condition be nn enrthquako or a vote of tho people." Tl.. 1 1 -.- K !. ... iuc j-iucui ujiuou act is a inw oi ltselt defining an offense and prescribing a penalty without a voto of the peo ple. The voto of tho people Iocs not make tho law or enact it. The Court held that tho law was as perfect a law as any by w hich we elect the President of tho Republic. Judge .Lmdiow held that asunder the decision of the Parker case, the Legislature could not delegate its power to the vote of the people, this Local Option law was unconstitutional because it left the qucstiou of license license to vote of the people. or 110 We learn from tho Venango Citi ten that James P. Riddle, County Commissioner, his wife and livo chil dren, met with a severe, and perhaps, to some of them, fatal nccident, while returning home from church on last Sunday. In crossing a high bridge over Littlo Scrubgrass creek, above Anderson's mills, in a two horse wag on, one side of the bridge gave way and suddeuly precipitated the whole family into the rocky bed of the creek, sixteen feet below. The whole party were injured more or less, Mrs. Riddle nnd one of the boys being so badly hurt that they are now iu a precarious condition. The crash of tho fulling bridge was heard by some cf the peo ple returning homo by another route who hastened to the assistance of the family who were lying helpless under the fallen timbers. Mechanics' LiEN-s.-Mecbanics' liens have been a source of great trouble to house-builders, but the new law which went into effect June 1st, '72, will rem edy some of the evils of the old prac tice. By the new regulation n man who makes a written contract with the builder and pays the stipulated price for the work, can lean upon the con tract for support ngainst any liens, which the men employed by the build er, or those who furnish the material, could otherwise bring against the building when completed. Tho par ties who furnish the material are thus compelled to look to the contractor for their pay, and cannot come back on the house-owner, after he has ouce paid tho contractor. On Saturday night a dreadful ac cident occurred at I'etersbugh, at the well of Speers, Orrusby and Geider. While tho workmen were engaged in reaming, a sudden flow of oil and gas took place, causing an explosion. At the time of the accident four men were present, A Laving, llob't Hone, A. llrquhart aud Charles Lavins. The two former were blown to a considera ble distauco by the explosion, and burned so severely that death ensued in a short time. The two latter were badly burned. The well burned until Sunday evening, when the firo was ex tinguished. Citizen. On Suuday last a little girl, about 12 years of age named Ella Slensberry, residing in Uouseville, was terribly burned by attempting to light a fire with kerosene. It appears that while in the act of pouring the oil on the fire the can exploded, and enveloped her iu liquid flame. A gentleman passing at tho time rushed iu, wrapped her in a blanket, and, after considera ble difliculty, put the fire out.
