Richmond, Va., June 2".-Informa-tion was received here to day of the killing of Colonel B. L. Farmhold, of Essex county, on Saturday. Early in the week he had a misunderstand ing with a blacksmith whose name is not known here, and a fight ensued and the blacksmith got worsted. On Saturday, Colonel Farinholt, hearing of threats made by the blacksmith, went to the hitter's shop armed with a five pound weight, but before he could use it his opjionent assaulted him with a sledge hammer and crushed his skull, killing him instantly. Colonel Farmhold was a man of considerable prominence in Essex county, where he had large monetary interests. A Lirte Girl s Frightful Death. Warwick, X. Y. June 29. A frightful accident occurred at Belle vale near this village, on Tuesday afternoon. Frances Quackenbusb, aged nine, the daughter of Theodore Quackenbush, was playing in Sand ford's grist mill, riding on one of the horizontal grinding stones with a playmate. When she stepped to get down her dress caught in the wheel and she was whirled around. Her head struck a hopper at every revolution. The mill was stopped as soon as possible, but the skull of the unfortunate girl was crushed and the scalp almost torn off. Her legs wound arouud a shaft and dislocated both at the knees and one thigh bone, her collar bone and ribs were broken. The child lived until nine o'clock, when she expired in great agony. Reading, June 27. The country roads and wheat fields in this vicin ity have been badly washed by the heavy rains of the past 24 hours. At Macungle, on the East Pennsylvania Railroad, a ditch 200 yards long and several feet deep was formed by the water, and all trains were stopped. Ashland, June 27. A heavy rain storm commenced on Monday and still continues. All work at the col lieries is suspended, and unless the rain ceases to-night ten collieries in the Mahony Valley will be flooded.
