The truth always hurts and as the.IlERALD got its information largely from Democratic sources, it lent an addi tional sting. It was to be expected that the Boss would pour out the vials of his wrath upon the bead of the Herald in bis usual grammatical wav; that he would use his choicest billingsgate and employ a few of his sterotyjied phrases, bu. he did not con fine himself to this; his wrath was kiadled not a little, and inollensive men like Fred erick Zimmerman and Haniel Mosteller came in for a share of his reviling and abuse. In point of numbers, enthiisiawn, and the character of the men who coni)sed the audience, it was one of the best meetings we have had the pleasure of attending for years. The solid farmers of that section turned out almost to a man, and there was no mistak ing their determined manner and conversa tion. They are Republicans in the full sense of the word, and if the old-time enemy and their Independent allies are uotsoundly rebuked by the voters of Somerset North on tiie 7th day of Novemlier, we miss our guess. Hiram lScam, Esq., was elected l'residcnt of the meeting, with Mr. Isaiah Rell and Mr. Josiah Aukeiiy as Vice Presi dent Hon. A. J. Colborn and F. W. Itie sccker Esq., made ringing seeches. The meeting adjourned with three rousing cheers for lieaver and the whole Republican ticket. At the time the Fulton county conferees were selected and instructed, it was with the understanding that if l'r. As the doctor's health has not improved to such a degree as to allow of his making a canvass, the Fulton ed in six votes for Loiigenecker and three for McKibben, Bedford and Somerset voting ; fur Loiigenecker and Fuiton for McKibben. i The nomination of Loiigenecker was then made unanimous. amid the greatest good feeling. Messrs. Mr. Eiiitor Guitcau killed GartiwUl and was hanged for his great crime, and because he said he was a Stalwart of the Mai warts the Independent party is trying to defeat the Republican ticket in 1'eniisvlvaiiia. When the Independents quote Guiteau as a Stalwart of the Stalwarts, why don't they also, esiecially the Deacon, refer to his pre tended inspirations? He said that he was (Jod's man, and was engaged in doing God's work. It would be equally as creditable for them to refer lo him as God's man as to pjote him as the Stalwart of the Stalwarts. Guiteau labored much harder to establish his inspiration theory than his Stalwartism. and if he is worth quoting at all he should he quoted properly. Those who are trying to rake up his stinking lames to prove that Indeeiidentisiii is right and Stalwartism w rong, are insulting thedignity of every in telligent voter.
