Itnwrrtit wrings bis haixls ami cries aloud
for tear that its uucle will l)e "removed."
Can't some one comfort the joor fellow?
We really don't think his uucle is in any
danger, except of being badly defeated four
weeks heiK-e. If he will refer to his file of
the 11lhm.ii we think he will tiud his ancle
died on the second Tuesday in November,
si, ami that the Herald published his
obituary. It is only his: ghost that is run
iiinc for ollice this year, and it will be de
centlv intirn-d four week" from to-day.
The l.itiitvcrot is in luck. It's uncle is a
.Si ientilic " polilician, and is a candidate
r Congress. Its brother-in-law is the
I I'eniocratic nominee for Jury Commissioner
' ami its editor is the Chairman of the Itemo-
cratic County Committee. This is rather a
I laiye share of the "soils" for one family,
; but then hat's the use of having a "scien-
titie uni le it he can t take care ol Ins rela
tions? Men like I'hl, Hay, Smith, Mus
grave and others must stand back ; the boss
needs nil the oilifes for his relatives.
The Jlnmtvut of hest week devotes consid
erable of its Sstce to yelling liar, liar, at the
Hkrvi t. ami then makes a most ludicrous
attempt to ' ggle out of a lielliat was forc
e.1 down its throat by Mr. l'eter Heftley.
Wiien it sta'ed editorially that Mr. lletliey
favored tb- action of the convention in not
nominating a Legislative ticket, it told a
w illful and deliberate lie and knowingly
misrepresented that gentleman. Last week
it o tiered a cry lame ajMilogy that only
makis its position worse. It would have
been much more manly, Alex., if you hail
sai.i openly that you had misrepresented
Mr. Iletiley as you did several other gentle
men in the same article, if their sayings
have Ocen truthfully reported to us.

presence of a large nundier of invited

congratulations had been extended, a most
elegant repast was partaken of by those pre

the manner in w Iri. ti he foams, bellows and

as the.IlERALD got its information largely
from Democratic sources, it lent an addi

A Goon Mketixo. The Republicans of
Somerset North openeil the campaign in
Somerset county for General lieaver, by a
rousing meeting at Edie, Saturdavjnight. In
point of numbers, enthiisiawn, and the
character of the men who coni)sed the
audience, it was one of the best meetings we
have had the pleasure of attending for years.
The solid farmers of that section turned out
almost to a man, and there was no mistak
ing their determined manner and conversa
tion. They are Republicans in the full
sense of the word, and if the old-time enemy
and their Independent allies are uotsoundly
rebuked by the voters of Somerset North on

guess. Hiram lScam, Esq., was elected
l'residcnt of the meeting, with Mr. Isaiah

the Independent party is trying to defeat

When the Independents quote Guiteau as a
Stalwart of the Stalwarts, why don't they
also, esiecially the Deacon, refer to his pre
tended inspirations? He said that he was
(Jod's man, and was engaged in doing God's
work. It would be equally as creditable for
them to refer lo him as God's man as to
pjote him as the Stalwart of the Stalwarts.
Guiteau labored much harder to establish
his inspiration theory than his Stalwartism.
and if he is worth quoting at all he should
he quoted properly. Those who are trying
to rake up his stinking lames to prove that
Indeeiidentisiii is right and Stalwartism
w rong, are insulting thedignity of every in
