The crimi "ual courts were not organized to vindi-"e-ate private wrongs or enforce private "rights of any kind, the people having "provided other courts for such purposes." We apprehend thai instructions of this kind could with great propriety be given to, and studied wuh advantage, by grand jurit-s in Somerset as well as those in Xew York. They are wholesome aad judicious, and could safely be followed. Miners' Meeting. Las Saturday a Miners' Meeting was held ia West Salis bury, at which ail the miners in the ;icin ity were represented, fully one hundred and tif.y men being present The griev ance under discug--ion was that the Cum berland and the Sail 'jury mines were not proviled with weigh scales, and, that, consequently, the weight ot the coal mined was only approximated, not exact. An other grievance was that but St) cents per car w as aid at the Salisbury mine, in stead ot ?1 CXI, as at the other mines. It was the sense id' the meeting, that the men working in these mines should "bring their tools out" until were corrected. On Wednesday another meeting was held in t'.e vicinity ol the Cumberland and Elklick mines, at which it was agreed that during the pending strike of tne mines above stated, the non-working miners should Ik; supported by the employes of the C. & E. Until the dM7tr's ad vent, or we might say, exit, we had no idea of the number of diseased eyes and eari in this neighborhood. He has been kept very busy every day and has treated a larze number of canes, every one of which has been eminently successful. We have from time to time noted his opera tions in these columns., but the two tol lowing ones are also worthy ol being noted. Mr. Charles W hetscll, ot this place, had btfen suffering with a foul discharge from one of his ears for the past 15 years, which had caused a perforation of the drum, to gether with a complete loss of hearing, this disease bas resi&ted the treatment ot a numlier ot physicians, but after being un der Dr. F.'s care for a short time the dis charge entirely ceased, and the hearing waa completely restored. The otherea.se was that of a son, aged 21, of Jno. W. Lee, Esq., of this place, who was afflicted wi;h almost total deafness of both ears, together wiih two tumors, each as big as a walnut, which bad formed in the throat, blocking up the internal paa-age t the ear. The removal ol the tumors was a necessary ad junct to the successful treatment ot the dealnesf. The opera'ion was exceedingly difficult, but was entirely succefsful, and the hearing of both ears entirely retstored. The delight of tht-se two gentlemen at the restoration ot their hearing can easily be imagined. Oakland (Md.) lUyjVi? -in.
