Tho stable belonged to Mrs. Elizabeth Sticker, mother of the proprietor of thef hotel, and was Insured for only tSOO. There nru several cases of varioloid reported III Stilton, this county, nnd wo may expect It to spread unless suddenly checked. All persons who have not been vaccinated ought to have it nttended to at once, It being tho great est safeguard against It that is known. We sec In our exchanges that a new method of treating the disease Is attracting the attention of the medical fraternity. The new remedy is tho use of thu drug hydrastls canadensis which has been employed In tin treatment of various di seases, both in local and Internal administrations, and which is said to exert extraordinary power over small pox, In modifying tho disease, abolish ing Its distressing symptoms, shortening Its course, lessening its danger, and greatly mitigat ing Its consequences. The plant uamcd hydrastls canadensis, Is found In many pnrts of the United States, and Its tincture is made and sold for medical purposes. The plaut Is properly called orange root, and sometimes called yellow puc coon, but it must not be confounded with an other plant commonly called puccoon.
