REPITBLICAN COUNTY CONVENTION. —TIIB call for this Convention, to cleat the delegate!, from this county to the State Convention, appears in on& columns to-day. The primary meeting' are to bo held on the 31st of Deeember,"and the Con vention on the Wednesday following. We should have preferred the postponement of the meetings to the week following, as the time fixed will bring the meetings upon us, in this city, at the very height of the canvass for city officers; but that cannot now be helped. Our friends In the country will see that thire is only a little over two weeks between this -and the Lim, of the primary meeting ; therefore whatever preparations are to be made, should be made at once. The County Committee have also, it will be seen, appended a call for a County Meetin g, to be hill on the night of the day fixed for the County Convention, to form a Republican Asso ciation for the county. This is decidedly a move in the right:direction. We trust thegentlemen who will come in ns delegates to the Convention, will come in prepared to stay over to the night meet ing. We want their presence and their tid is the formation of this Association. Severed dis tinguished gentlemen have promised to make speeches on that occasion ; and we anticipate a very interesting meeting. It will lay the roan dation of the organization which is to be carried into. every :township and school district fa the county. Bat let not the attendance from the country be limited to the delegates to the convention. We I 4 expect to see a large tarn out of the staunch Re- fE publicans of the county at that time, and we ' know they cannot serve the canoe better than by attending. Tae IisPUELICAN CITY CONT6IIIIOII.--The dread we expressed, yesterday, of an untoward result in the Itopnblicah City Cotl•CillioE, has been realized. That body, instead of harmon izing its differences, split into two conventions, each of which presented a different nomination fot the Mayoralty. The nominees for Controller and Treasurer, of both Conventions, however, are the same. We very mach regret this division. Al. this b tune, of all others, it is to be most heartily d :pre- j ti ' cated. Just on the eve of a Presidential else don, when every consideration of prudence and L policy should prompt to union and hrtrmorly, a h distraction like this is deplored by all the friends of Republican principles. As there is yet plenty of time between this and !' the election to remedy this unfortunate difficulty, 1 , we trust that steps will at once be taken to that II end. There is a sincere desire, we kpow, en the f part of the great mass of the party, that the h Republicans should present a united trout in 6 this, the first battle in the campaign of ISGO ; and with that desire prevailing, there ought to be no great trouble in bringing about a satisfac tory arrangeinent. The democrats are, of course, in great glee it tho prospect which this division opens up before them or carrying their candidate for ianyor ; but we treat that their hopes may be dlsappoltdpdAy the prevalence of each wise eoemsels In our ranks as will render all their ef forts of no avaiL Tmi Albany Evening JOUMLarO - 110 of the most ably conducted Republican papers of the eoun t77, says: ...The, Pittsburgh; Gazette has just closed its 7811 volume.
