They have let appear entirely too plainly that they were disposed to ploy every card in their bands for all it was wortboind a little more, - in- - ether words they were willing to cheat a little,in the hope of mak ing the game surer. A few instances will illus trate this blunder. Ara. The magnitude of the insurrection was exaggerated at one time, being Democratically estimated to.inolude 700 men. There were never over 22. ' • Second. The telegraph shows a Tittle too plainly the side it Is working for. Na sue who has watched the reports with any care has failed to ' see how openly it lends itself to the Demooratio use et the insurrection. At one time it tolls us that Gov. Wise hes found a bushel of letters in Brown's house, which implicate large numbers of Republicans. At another it tells us that An drew Ranterhas found another bushel of letters containing a roll of conspirators, and a receipt from Mr. Greeley for letters, thus by inuendo im plicating Mr. Greeley. After this dirty lie has .had a chance to travel all over New York, and 'do all the harm possible,-the same reporter tells us that the receipt is probably for letters written to the Pratme. The contemptible whelp knew, just as well when he sent the first report that the receipt was a simple business paper with no manner of connection with the riot, as be knew it en Friday when he so admitted it to be, but three days of a lie just now are worth a good many Democratic votes, he thinks, andao he lies. This ia a specimen of the way the Democrats use the telegraph, 'which has a reputation for impar tiality and can therefore make a he go farther than their pipere could do, to make capital for the New York election. At still another time we are told that Mr. Forbes has made revelations implicating Mr. Seward, Mr. Chase, Governor Fletcher and ever so many Republicans. When the revelations apPear they show that Forbes may have told his underground railrord plans, not an insurrection though, to various Republi- Ilene, but it shows that they:let them eters e in ' his scheme, for he complains bitterly of Seward and others for not supporting:him and hie fami ly while he is engaged in nigger stealing. Again we are told that Brown made confessions, and Sheriff Campbell has obtained information im plicating a large number of leading Northern Men, and when published will make a great sen sation: Why are they not published ? Simply because they are just snob trash as the Con:Mo tion published. And it will do a great deal more eervice in New York to tell 'what the letters will do, than to let the public see the ieuers, for one can lie and the other can't. All through the whole affair the telegraph has hinted et awful revelations and sensations with the riot, and shows in every respect a disposition to fill the public' apprehensions, just in time for the New York election, but it has never made any of the revelations that would produce .such great re sults. This feature is significant. The Demo aerate have played the telegraph a little too strong for their good. It is a great card un doubtedly, but therhave let the public see what they. are doing with tt ; They have tried hard to squeeze blood out of turnip, that is, they have wasted a great deal . of labor in making a COM plioity in the insurrection out of Horace Gree ley'a business receipt, out of Gldihugs' $3 stock, and out of Mr. Seward's and Mr. Chase's knowl edge of an underground railroad scheme, derived from Forbes a year and a half before, and which they appmelated so highly as to let him severely alone to slllbh an extent that ho abases ihrm in round terms." Mu. Enter to Enormao.—Fresident Fllllloy, of Oberlin, is now is Scot!arid. The foreign correspondent of the New York Indrpendent says of his doings in Edinburg g. Mr. Finney is applying the regenerating and eanotifying Word to the intelligence and the conscience, at a series of meetings in Brighton Street Chapel. These meetings have hien ex ceedingly, well attended, and have excited a great interest among the peoplo. Mr. Finney's addresses as yet have been more calculated Is rouse the - careless professor of religion to re newed ceneecration to God, and to establish and confirm those who have true peace, than to awaken the thoughtless and. Unconverted. Not only have many professors ceme oat and con fessed their former indifference, and begun a 11111 V life, but a great number of hitherto care less persons have been led to yield themselves up to God. A. small meeting has been held on the Sabbath evenings for some time past, in a hall in the Advocate's Close, High street. The, results have been very eatiefactory. Every evening a few persons have waited for converse thin about the things of eternity. The three laSt sabbaths the average number has been nine or ten, and, with few exceptions, they have gone away rejoicing. The prayer-meeting - at 3 o'clock krßriste-place Hall, conduoted by Mrs. Finney and other, ladies, is well attended. The Hall, which holds nearly two hundred, is filled, and sometimes crowded. This prayer-meeting is composed of ladles froth all the different denom inations of the city.
