There la nemarnnt for holding oar Party to any remponsibility in the premises. Mr. Bodon i* acting eta* on his own reeponsibUty—as a citizen •and — not as an officer—sad the party has nothing to do with it. We think, however, as many other of his political friends 'think, that having'scoepted the place of Conity Solici tor he should, ftum a due regard to public sen timent, have abstained from a / course which lends the public to identify the oMoe with the acts of the holder of it—that the two places, wider the peculiar nircuintances of the case, arc iaeompatible, and. thit he ought to make his Median between-the two, and Rive up either the Bolloitorship or the Dinotonhips. This we know lobe the carnet feeling of thellepublican NAY, libelant we hare hadlthe opportunity of aseensining It; and if lir. Barton, in the ex , noise of his Individual freedom, chooses tolake the other course, he, and not the party, is to be held responsible for it. We feel called upon, also, now that we hare' alluded teals matter, to express anew the opin _ len that the county stook should not hare been voted in either of those roads, and that the po sition in which the county Ands herself placed to wards them should keep every onein anyway cou nseled with the Omandertionera' aloe, either as Commissioners or subordbeates, from participat ing in their management. The county having • reined to pay the interest on the bonds issued to dun, should abstain from all partici pation in their control. This seems to as a self evident proposition. Tn spealdng , thus freely we are not to be emedestood as ceiling any 'reflections upon any ores to - whout nano alluded; but we are and bare been extremely noxious; in view of the pledges-held out by the Republican candidates last fall, that no step of; doubtful propriety should be taken and that everything that might (hoverer wrongly) be construed into an evi dence of bad faith, should be avoided ; and it is to put the party straight, and right , upon the record, that we hare thus expressed a dizappro • ral of what is capable of being interpreted inju riously to it. The Vantage ground gained by the party last fall ought to be maintained ; and any step away from it is but playing into the buds of the enemy. Every , Republican in of foe should zealously and jealnely- avoid even the appearance of wrong; and whatever has been done that has that appearance, ought to be sinettded at ones, as fsr as possible: The peapie of the county may rest earned that the Republican party of the county will tats no step backwards. It will maintain its integrity upon thls . aarmon all other questions, that come before It. Mora Esumotni Sara.—We find the follow ing In thi PhlbuirJpida Lodger of Wednesday*: oTheAMegheny county bond cases were the enbjeot of -action in the Supreme Court, sitting MU& oily yesterday. Wm. Bev ' ing retired to another room, hia amanuensis soon after beard him groaning, and on boosting open the door found him with his bead thrown back, entirely unconscious, and in about an hour after, he died. The previous premonition, which -he received a few months since, had aocustomed his family aid , frisidec when parting with. Dim, to do en-as if they feared for- another meeting on earth. But thin circumstance by no means diminished the poignancy ortbDir grief; nor in any way supplies his place, foriehom the great er solicitude and love were felt-on account or his own precarious situation. "Of the work on which he was engaged, Philip 11, six *alums were designed, three of which have been published; part of the fourth is now written; and the other two will probably fall to the hands of some other master of Spanish his tory to complete, but the touch elite great pain ter cannot but be missed, and theme clearly defined where be finished and another began." In alluding to the funeral services of Prescott the historian, the_Boston Post, of Monday says that "with good Judgment, not often seen, no word -of eulogy or of exhortation were spo ken over the honored remains ; but a simple form of prayer, the language of inspiration which has been canonized by the religions sentiment of ages, and strains of Divine song, were the only sounds that were heard. The solemn sal-t -rams and the heavy hearts of the mourning throng spoke the prevalent depth of feeling. At the conclusion of these fitting rites, the bier was borne from theater and the friends followed the remains to St. Paul's Church; and there the mor tal form of the man who shed so much glory on his country, and whose fame is without spot or blemish, was laid beside !begrime of his fathers." Tax decision of Judge Davies in the case of the Camberland Coal Company agt. A. M. Sher man et al. one of the _most important which has been made in regard to corporations for some years. It applies to Directors of corpora -1 one the principle which governs the relations of trustee and curet gee trust in respect to pur asses of the trust estate or contracts with re spent to that estate. It adopts the broad ground that In all eases where a Director buys of or contracts with the Board of Directors of which he is a member, the sale or contract is voidable at the option of the Company, without regard to the fairness or unfairness of the transaction. It warts this rule as &conclusion of law, founded on considerations of public policy, which, inas much as It would be often impossible for any Court to ascertain whether the transaction by a party in a' relation of trust and confidence was • jest one, or whether the interests of the cretni gee trust h ad been duly protected, strikes at the root of the evil, by declaring theta° such trane action shall stand except at the option of the cestmi gue trust. The principal is of very wide application. It is said that about three thou sand millions of dollars is involved in corporate shares and securities inthis country. Perhaps no decision has been rendered in many years eo important to the vast Ind wide interests Involved in the great enterprises of our day, or which will have so salutary an operation in checking the evils which infest such institutions. The opinion also lays down some legal rules govern ing dealings between directors and stockholders scarcely less important —N. F. Trib. A very 'singular and painful shooting case transpired last liionday morning in New York, a man having shot his own servant girl through mistaking her for a ! burglar. It appears that Mr. Barnard, a pawnbroker in Third Avenue, beard at five o'clock it noise, which he interpre ted as proceeding from bur glars, but which was caned by the servant girl raking out the grate preparatory to making a fire underneath where be slept, and which contained the safe itewhich were deposited gold watches, jewelry. and other valuable property left in pledge. Securing a revolver he raised up a window, and seeing, as be supposed a burglar in the act of escaping oat of the'window underneath, fired. The ball took effect in the neck of hie servant girl, who bad protruded her head out of the window to fasten the blinds back. Her, injuries ,are believed to be mortal, although she was aliVe last Monday evening. A BOTCAILRIZD OPEN. run - FALLS OF SIAGAIIA: —A sad accident occurred at Niagara Falls on Saturday.
