She, seeing that be was excited, and imagmtng that he was intoxicated, said she was I* sod uttered an oath, told Mrr. Mowers sne lied, and rushed into the inner room on the lower floor, where lus wife was partially nn dressed and preparing to go to bed, with a child ox Mrs. Mowers. A long conversation ensued between the parties, which Mrs. Mowers, who was in the next room, did not attend to, although she could bear the voices quite plainly. All at once she heard a scuffle, and rushing into the room saw that Reed had drawn a dirk with a blade some fivo inches in length and was in the act of dealing alternate blows with it upon him self and wife. Speechless with horror, sbo ran out and brought in her husband, who was just entering the gate at the lime. On entering the room, it was found that the wretched man had given him-elf sctod wound*, and was lying in a pool of his own blood. In less than five minutes he expired. The wouods, either 000 of which alone would have produced death, were not jagged or rough, but the blade had been driven home every time, showing what determined will the wretched suicide must have possessed. Catharine Jleed, his victim, was found to have received nine distinct stabs, nearly every one in a vital part of the neck, chest and stomach.
