Tiif. following report so feelingly and clearly expressed, would have found a place in oar columns on Saturday morning, had it not been crow Jed out by pre?s of othey matter which had to appear: Uej’cut ot the Board of Managers of the I’tTTSUCRGH AND ALLEGHENY ORPHAN ASYLCSi Society.—Winter—long, lingering and dreary, has given place to the milder influences of Spring, and in accordance with the rules of its constitution, this society is now convened at Its annual meeting. To many of the subscriber?, this anniversary gives tho only glimpso they have during the year, of the children whom their boanty has clothed and fed ; it oasnot therefore be devoid of interest to them, to see whether their money has procured os large a share of comforts to these bereaved ones as the nature of tho case demands. But there is another reason for tho present assemblage, the Board of Man agers whose term of office now expires, are re quired to inform tbcSocioty of the wclfaro of the institution, aud render an account of the condition of thihgs, generally, as connected with it. Here, your Managers aro compelled to confess that they hare a plain unvarnished statement to make of labors and discouragements—mingled, it is true, with brighter tints—but presenting no claims to novelty, inasmuch, as that in many respects, the present account resembles those of former years. For one reason, however, a greater degree of difficulty in providing for the Orphan family during the lost few months, was to be expected. Tho wide-spread pecuniary embarrassments of the autumn and winter could not fail to shed a benumbing influence on the Asylum, and dry up ihe sources of supply for its Inmates. The most poignant apprehensions were entertained by the Board, that their stinted means would proveinsufiicientlo provide daily bread to the children under their care. Frequently tho treasury was entirely empty nay, worse—it was indebted to the Treasurer, as it still continues to be: she having kindly ad vanced the money so indispensable to the sus tenance of the hungry little ones. Rat it is well said that, '‘man’s extremity is God’s opportunily." Friendscarnoforward un expectedly, and most seasonably, to the rescue. One benevolent gentleman contributed morcthnn two hundred dollars during (tie year; the Thanksgiving Day and Christmas offerings amounted 10 nearly double the sum given the season previous, and last, though not least in interest, the little band of young ladies in Man chester sent io their donation, from the work of their own hands A legacy of the lato Mr Park, of Allegheny city, ensures fifty dollar? per annum to the asy lum lor twenty years ; the payment of which unlike former bequests, not one of thorn having been available in the least degree—will com mence next fall. A valuable addition 10 the fundi of the* Socie ly, has likewise accrued, in consequence oftbe efforts of the First Diroolress, who went to Har risburg 10 present a claim of four thousand dol lar?. being part of the ten thousand voted to this institution sotno years ago, though the above named amount still remained unpaid N\w did nhc go in vain ; the justice of the pe tition was at once recognized, and an uuani toons vote was passed in its favor by both hous es The payments will begin next July, of one thousand dollars per annum, in semi-annual in utalments of live hundred dollars each for four years. But there are other grounds for gratitude to Almighty God beside? His thus spreading a table in the wilderness for the fatherless and the des titute. The good health of the children is one of those mauifest&tions of the divino goodness, far which your managers desire to render their hearty thanks It is now three years einco the last funeral procession passed through the gate of that favored abode Confisgraiioo has not consumed their dwellings, nor have the winds of heaven been permitted to visit, 100 roughly, that hospitable roof The continuance of tho judicious counsels rendered by Dr. Dale, their medical attendant, is a link In the chain of blessing* which your managers .Tejoico to men tion: while the vigilance and capability of the Matron, the success of the Teacher, and the fidelity of the subordinate officers of the asy- Inm. have conduced materially to cheer the Board in their arduous task. Tho religious in struction of the children is still attended to, by thouc kind friends who have hitherto devoted their time to this labor of love. There are cow seventy-three inmates of the A*ylum, one of whom is an infant of five months old. Fifteen have been received during the year, and nineteen have been put out, or restored to their relatives at ihcir particular request. This latter class, derive great benefit from the facl, that your liberality has provided an ark of safe ly for them, in ibe dark and stormy day of be reavoment; if at a subsequent period, friends feel able to support and educate theto, your Managers have felt it right to give up the children to them : many havo been the expres sions of gratitude to the members of this Socie ty, who sheltered the homeless head, when no other human help was near. If this narrative ha? been rightly expressed, it must be evident to the Society, that the time has not yet come, when their exertions to sus tain this useful charily, can with propriety bo relaxed. So great a number of children require a large outlay to supply their numerous wants; and therefore, your Managers on laying down the powers entrusted to them, would respectful ly urge the importance of continued—even of increasing liberality, in behalf of those, whose natural protectors have been taken away, in the helpless years of early childhood. By order of ibe Board. N. W. Cawukll, Secretary. Br the following Circular, which we find in Tht liutfalo Ittpubixe, we rejoice lo perceivo that ibe proper steps arc being taken to effcctaunion of all the opponents of the Lvcomplon fraud in our State uponasinglo ticket at our ensuing election. Tho signers of this Circular arc amoog the most prominent membora of the Republican and American parties in Erie County, the first of whom has been Stale Treasurer; the next two Members of Congress, one other was Postmas ter of Buffalo, and tbe last District Attor ney. Their Ciroular indicates clearly and well the platform on which a common organization and common effort are practicable. This State ought to send from twenty-five to thirty oppo nents of the Lecompton fraud to the next Con gress, and elect a State Ticket and-Legislature hostile to it by at least One Hundred Thousand majority. To secure this consummation, a gen erous forgetfulness of obsolete differences and an earnest reciprocity of concessions with regard to caudidatesare all that is needed. We hail with joy and hope this cordial ovorture.—A*. J'. 7Vi‘A. BtirraLO, May ti, 1858. Dkar Sib : The absolute and unconditional surrenderor the national Government into the hands of the aggressive aud intolerant slave power of the country, by the national Adminis tration, as exemplified ia its attempt to impose a repulsive Constitution upon the people of Kansas, in defianco of their expressed wishes, makes it the imperative doty of all good citi zens, who desire to preserve the instilutionsin berited from their fathers, to ignore ail consid erations of a selfish character, and to unite at the polls for tbe purpose of deposing an Admin istration at once so faithless and despotic. As a preliminary stop, the undersigned havo cor dially united with their fellow-citizens in coll ing a mass meeting, to be held in this city, on the 27th of May, at wbicli an opportunity will be afforded for a free and full expression of the nentimonls of tho people of the County, in ro gard to their political rights and duties. Satis fied iheraselves that all personal and party con siderations should, at tbi* time.be made sub servient to the public welfare, the undersigned havo no hesitation in asking their friend? in each of the wards and towns in the County, to unite with them io utter forgetfulness of tho pant, and in harmonious preparation for the fa ture, to tho end that the Government of the country may bo wrested from tbe bands of those who now control it. Blank calls will be sent into every town and ward, and we respectfully urge upon you the importance of immediately obtaining the sig natures of all persons, without regard to former political associations, who are now willing to oppose, at the polls, tbe principles and policy of the National Administration. As soon as.the names of your townsmen are obtained to the call, please inclose it in an in velope, directed cither to E. R. Jewett or E. 0. Spaulding. They have kept tho faith ; they have adhered to the doc trine of popular sovcreighty; they have voted it in this House, and they have not fawned and trembled in the presence of a dominating Ad ministration—in the presence of that great tyr anny which holds the Government in its thrall at Washington. They have given flash for flash to every indignant look . and when a gentle man from Virginia, the other clay, tauntingly told them that certain, language which they used upon the floor of this Houeo was the language of rebellion, ;bey shouted through tbo lips of the gentleman from Indiana, (Mr. Davi?) "it was the larfguage of freemen.’’ I say that it is due to them that we should pay that they have borne the brunt of tho battle—and that they, whether from New York, Pennsylvania, Ghio, iadiano, or Illinois, have kept the whiteness of their souls, and have made a record which has lain in light: and if my voice can have any weight with the young men of the country where those men dwell, I should say to them stand by these men with all your young enthu siasm, stand by them without distinction of party; they may not agree exactly with you; but they have stood tho test here, where brave men falter and fall. In all the eras and ages of that church, from tho hymn which first it whispered in an upper chamber, until its anthems filled the earth, the inspiration of the royal prophet has enraptured its devotions and ennobled its rituals. Chorused by the wiods of heaven, they have swelled through God’s own temple of the sky and star?; they have rolled over the broad desert of Asia, in the matins and vespers of ten thousand hermtts. They have rung through the deep valleys of the Alps, in the sobbing voices of the forlorn Waldunsee , through the steeps and caves of Scottish Cove nanters; through the woods and wilds of primi tive America, in the heroic hallelujahs of the early pilgrims.— Henry (hies A Heart Clay i> I'rasi i:.
