Mr. Hicks was a personal friend of the subject of his eulogy, as were the greater number of his hearers, and he paid the tribute of an artist, as well as of an admiring friend, to his genius andpersonal worth. It was a narrative of his early struggles, his art istic at home and abroad; an enumera tion of his various achievements, his triumphs, and a touching account of the premature and melancholy termination of his life. Thb Rotal Mabbiaqs w Ebglasd. —On the 21st of November, 1840, a royal Princes* was bom in England, and England was inconvul ■ Mona of joy which lasted some time. This little gul having now arrived at the mature age of : seventeen and a quarter yean, was to have been, and no doubt was, married on Monday last to Prince Frederick William, the presumptive heir to the crown of Prussia. He is a very well looking and well behaved young man, now in his twenty-seventh year, having been born Oc tober 18,1831. The match is said to be one of genuine af fection, as was that of Victoria herself; and it is fortunate that it is so, for in the vfery small circle to whioh English royal marriages are con fined, it is a little surprising that a person could be found who should really love the Prin cess Reyol and be loved by her in return. The royal marriage act forbid* alliances between the members of the royal family and British sub jects, while it also forbids marriages with foreign: princes or princesses who are not Prot estants. ' The consequence is that all English princes and princesses of modern time* have to find wives and husbands among the German Protestant royal families, and these a supply of marriageable young men and women thot&qolto equal to the demand. The London papers havebeeufiUed with pros pective accounts of the_napttal* of Monday and the attendant fetes, which will dnrpasa. anything of the kind ever witnessed at the English court. Victoria and Albert are fond parents, and are proud of their eldest daughter, who is good look ing—resembling her farther more than her mother—and who is also a young woman of good mind and great accomplishments We ahau. Id a couple of weeks, liaTe these same journals coming to as with whole pages devoted lo this one topic—the marriage of two young people.— Two years ago, when this marriage was test talked about, and when Prussia was so obsti nately, but «o wisely, keeping out ofthe war with Russia, the London fines denounced it in each bitter terms that it was thought the Queen would be frightened out of the notion of it. Peace was established with Russia and peace with the Times followed. The marriage arrangements were resumed, and now the fines is the loudest and most enthusiastic in reporting the nuptial ceremonies. This marriage will increase largely the som ber of continental reigning familes witb which the royal family of England are united by mat rimonial connections. It will even bring them into connection with Russia, for the Empress Dowager of Russia is the annt of the young bridegroom, and if Nicholas had lived, the -strange circumstance might hare seen of a daughter of the Queen of Ed ' Czar her. __Jp!!fca«ionof KffSSStiaw m have an impor 'tknt bearioffopon the future polities of Eng land we are not disposed to consider at present. ( We simply wish to refer to the festivities andi rejoicings at London in honor of the marriage of Victoria’s Erst ohDiL When the Prince of Wales takes to himself a wife, there will be still greater rejoicing. After that, as each of the 1 seven remaining princes and princesses is mar ried, there will be not mach more excitement than there was when eaoh of them was born.
