Vi •* What of Kansas ?—Scarcely a day passes over our head .that we are not met with the in quiry—'“Whati-i* really the state of matters in Kansas at present ? Which party has the ma jority as Indicated by the late elections ? How does the vote of the January election stand ?” Wo answer that no man knows. All that any one can give as figures or facts with any pre tence to reliableness are the reports which reach us by telegraph, headed— (< Lolest from Kansas.” The public will do wcli just to read that, and . possess their souls in patience until next dis patches. We may as well add just here that wo consider our business os “freedom shriekers” clean gone forever. We have ceased watching the tide of \ events on the “dark and polluted soil of Kan sas,” with any great interest now, because we believe that there is enough manhood left in its unfortunate people to fight, rather than submit to that Lccompton Constitution. That being" so, the whohr question will be solved by a determination followed by active endeavors on iho part of the administration to pat that Constitution in operation in Kansas. So that we may dismiss from our minds that part of the subject. As regards the present movements of Mr. BuchaDan through his satellites, Calhoun and Henderson, they arc not worth any considera tion. Givenjany particular return of elections or proceeding of government officials in Kansas —tho whole thing is a fraud, prima facie. It is .always safe to conclude that some plot, conspir acy, or “cussedncsaT’ to use an ex pression of Tom Ford's, is brewing, whenever late news is promulgated at Washington, with reference lo Kansas matters. It is not there fore, of the least importance to attempt an un derstanding of conflicting reports and figures. Just set down all that the administration does in this matter for fraud. Thus we dispose of tho whole question. Events are now vastly more weighty and important than reports. Wait the result patiently. , If the administration desires put the Lo compton Constitution through the present Con gress can there be any Joubt that it will succeed? T., Jan. fltb, 1858--' :£ Metirsj sfeorki— Tie universal fecflag, out ride of-Omaha, is in favoT of the removtuof the Capital from Omaha to some point to the interior ' of the territory, as a measure conducive and . j necessary to the best interests of the territory I at large. - | The Capital was originally located at Omaha, • some three years ago, which caused great dis satisfaction throughout the territory at the time. At eTery session since then, the removal of the Capital hns been prevented by the acts of an Omaha Governor, and during the session of last winter, open threats of violence and murder were made. During the current session, the Omaha faction being welHawaro that the dreaded' question would again be brought up, had determined to allow of no legislation &rtcr Us introduction, upon any other subject than that of the terri torial printing. On the Oth inst., a bill for the removal of the Capital was introduced in the House. A motion being made to suspend the rules for' the reading of the bill, it was found that its friends were twonty-fivo out of the thirty-five members. On the 7th inst., the Honse was resolved into a Committee of the Whole, to consider the terri torial printing, with Dr. Thrall—an Omaha man —as Speaker pro tern., in the chair. Amessago being announced from Gov. Cum ing (Omaha) the Committee of the Whole was suspended, and Decker (anti-Omaha) the regu lar speaker of the House, took his accustomed seat. The Governor's message having been received and duly acted upon, Decker withdrew in favor of Thrall, and the Coramitteo of tho Whole, re newed its discussion of tho subject of territorial printing. The Omaha faction, thus being again in pos session, although greatly in the minority, were determined to keep it, until the session closed, ( on the ICth Inst., in order that no opportunity j might offer, for Ibo farther discussion of the | obnoxious bill, and they began filling up the time with interminable speeches about nothing. Soon a second message, this time from the Council, (as tho Senate is called) was announc- , ed, andrin order to receive and act upon it it was necessary-again to suspend the Committee of the Whole, as was done in regard to the mes sage of tho Governor. Decker then requested Thrall to allow him to take the chair, but was ref ased. While Decker was presenting in claim to the seat, to which he was justly entitled, he was seized by a notorious Omaha bully, a member who, with the assist ance of two other men, violently thrust him to the floor.. Immediately, by evidently preconcerted ac tion, a mob of two hundred or more presented itself. Of course, the anti-Omaha members, of whom only a few happened to be present, offered no resistance, and the affair closed, happily, with out bloodshed. A citizen of Florence, most opportunely at hand, offered the majority a place in Florence where they could hold their meetings in peace, and be protected in their rights. Yesterday morning this offer was acted upon, and a motion to adjourn and meet at Florence this morning at 10 o'clock passed the Council by a vote of 8 to 5, and in the House there was but one dissenting voice. Accordingly- the legislature couvened this morning at tho appointed time, and are occupy ing two fino large rooms, side by aide, with a door between, which answers the purpose odmi rably. , _ . t The results arc, that Horenct m no ir the Capital of Ncbtatka, and will continue such to the close j of this session, and will probably be the capital j until new buildings shall be erected at the point chosen as the capital. A few days since, a letter was - received here, written from the “City of Provo, State of Dese ret, October Ist, 1857,” by a young man who set out from Florence, for Utah, last summer, which furnishes some indices, among many, of the Spirit prevailing there. 11c says: “Mormonism is true.
