By.iSo rcloruflof the elecLiGHheld yesterday, which will be found in our local columns, it will be seen th&t Mayor Weaver is . re-elected by 1200 majority, and that we hate elected our other cityofficertby 800 and 900 majority. Thtis hate the cHitens of Pittsburgh adminis tered their .rebuke to the recnant democracy. The Eepubllcaks haTe swept the city. carry both branches of Connells by large ma jorities, and bare carried' most of tbeir ward, -tickets. It was impossible to gel full returns before going to press. 1 WegiTe such as we were able; to get. • “Bmxdiho Kabsas.”— Tip so-called Demo cratic papers are becoming quite woeflil and .•'tedious” on “bleeding Kansas.” The Poland Union must hare become very wearisome to their readers within the past few weeks! In the tall of 1856, ‘'Democracy” became nervous and dis gusted on -the subject, when there was vastly more that was worth saying than at present. At this time, however, so bravely are the tables turaed that all the toothsome stories about Kan saSjitiebiUereat criminations and recriminations in reference to it come to as through "Demo cratic” sources. Who discuss the question on the floors of Congress but the "peaceable” De mocracy? Not one word from a Republican Senator yet this session! They sit by and see. the storm raging among the opposition. Men who have heretofore had ao bowels of compas sion suddenly become merciful. The Belfast (Me.) Journal, an administration hack, says: ‘‘We do not forget that at tfcfe time when there was an armed irruption of Missourians stealing the bsilot-boxes and cutting the throats of the people in Kansas, Mr. Douglas found nothing to complain nor did Mr. Forney, of the Philadel phia Press. We find, however, that not only these, but many others, who regarded os nothing all that transpired under Pierce’s administra tion, ore now fearful that Kansas is (o be wronged.” The’change in the two distinguiahed individ oals'mentioned is no greater than in the Journal ttsslt It never learned daring the whole of Pierce’s administration what it declares “wc do not forget”; nay, it branded the story of the "Irruption of Missourians” as a "Black Repub lican lie.”-.'. Again, with regard to the very last election, that. of. the 21st of last month: wehadread a good deal in the Tribune and other “lying” sheets about fronds upon the ballot-box, and in vasions of pro-slavery ruffians from Missouri, but of course could not beiieTc them so readily as when welfoond them in the Cincinnati JFnyut rer, a thorough administration paper. Hear it, through its Lecompton correspondent, under date of Dec. 21: •‘Kansas has again been invaded by large numbers, of Missourians—they have voted here and elsewherejLthe result has been, unquestion ably, to give a huge nominal Vote to the ‘Consti tution with slavery,’ Thatrsuch has been the casa none caCk deny. Tour correspondent found, in passihg last week through Missouri, the coun ty papers virtually advising the people of Mis souri to vote, and the people talking of doing so. In addition, I -have seen the Missourians come over in large numbers, have heard them confess that they voted, hare heard others say that they had been solicited to do so frequently, and that organisation hadheen effected with reference to doing so.” ; ' Then the Ohio fStoterman, whilom the paper of Medary of that State, since Territorial Gov ernor of Minnesota says: ••The election of last Monday was 9 farce. Kansas was again invaded by a large number of Missearians, and many voted many times. At thja point -I was a witness of -the and therefore speak what. J know. I have to this time heard only the result at (his point and Eickapoo. This place, where fraudulent voting was to a-degree prevented, and competent to poll 1200 votes, but 256 Wen polled, of which number - 220 were for the ‘Constitution witb Slavery.’ Free State men and Free State and conservative " pro-slavery■ Democrats-refused to vote. At Kiekapoo ten hundred and seventeen votes will be returned. This point is notorious fronds, and cannot legally poll at any time 400 votes; Uis almost unanimously pro-slavery —near Weston, Missouri, which is quite a town, and it is ascertained that many voted at least a half doxen times.” It irill be obserred that both these extracts speak of Kansas as intaded “again.” It is just coming out,'then, through the tm»»r mans <jf Democrat * 9>®piy '''■**• “ »*i. grading state of things ia 7«ar 1850 should receive a rebuke at the polls; ire were beaten. Now, tbe very facts which should bare given us Uie President in. 185 G, are all acknowledged. Out of their own mouths this Democratic party stands condemned. SoxKßODT'wrUes to tbe N. 7. Tribune from Eastern PomsylranS as follows: 7oa may feel assured that Mr. Buchanan's having yielded himself so completely to South* ern dictation, is not only seen by the Democracy of Pennsylvania,' but is working powerfully. Their new Governor, Packer, sustains Mr. Doug las, and one of the Democratic members of the House of Representatives from this city has de clared wlthin a day or (wo that he wiD not vote for thcyLecompton swindle, and that there are not over four Democratic members from Penn sylvania who will. This is doing well for tbe . holidays, but better things'will'happen when 'Congress reassembles. CoL Forney’s frets is a sorejfrievaace to the straight-out Bachanan men ! : ‘ia tus-State. They are becoming bewildered, and find the game is nearly up. SraortAit Anaist.—A very respectable color ed lady, on "a brief visit to Baltimore, we are Informed, was arrested last night in that city on the eve of her departure for home. The arrest was made by some of the city officials, under the pleayof remaining longer than is usually permitted by law to free colored persons. Atlcast they will return with depleted purses—for there is no place on earth where money vanishes more rapidly and more, unaccountably than in this borough. I presume the Democratic Senate caucus will meet to-morrow at 10 o'clock. I am able to announce with entire certainity the cabinet of Gen. Packer, as he has resolved to constitute iU Hct: may, however, change it beLween this and the eighteenth, but for this 1 will not be responsible. The cabinet as now constituted, is Mm. M. Helster, of Berks, for Secretary of State; Judge Knox of the Supreme Court, Attorney General; Mr. Dieffenbacb, of Lycoming, Deputy Secretary of State. yim. A. Porter, eon of the Ex-Governor; and present solicitor of the city of Philadelphia will Succeed Knox upon the Supreme Besoh. It was the first intention of.Gfincr&l Packet (o haveap pointed-him Attorney .General, but the unpopu larity of the appointment altered him. The appointment of Porter to the bench. It is thought will be less.obnoxious to public censure, be cause it will excite less attention. The truth is, Gen. Packer was forced’out of personal grati tude to elevate Porter. The father of the latter had successively modo him Canal Commissioner and Auditor General. Indeed-he kept him in office continually during tbe whole six years of his administration. I deem it an appointment utterly-unfiyo be mode. It may be regarded as the offspring, of a cross-marriage between personal gratitude and-the profound conviction of Porter’s inefficiency. ‘ There is some hope this afternoon of a split in the ranks of the House Democracy. It is thought there is some prospect that Jenkins, of Luzerne, will bolt if he is beaten for the nomi nation and will be able to carry with him a number of Democrats. Whilst 1 do cot believe he con carry enough to defeat Longaker in the House, the bolt may result in dividing and de moralizing the Democracy to some extent. If the session starts in bitterness and trouble among the majority there is no telling where it may end. I trust, therefore, there is some foun dation for the rumor. The Governor’s Message will be started for your place in to-morrow night’s mail, I presume, if there are any new recommendations in it not much attention will be paid to them, owing to the fact that a successor will soon take his place, differing totally from him in his views of public policy, and because tbe Democratic party ore so largely in tbe majority in both branches of tbo Legislature. r. The decay and corruption of the Democratio party, is more apparent in tho U. S. Senate, than any where else. In former years that was the most dignified body in the world. True it is however, that Pennsylvania seldom has been represented therein by her ablest men. James Ross was a Senator in the memorable contest between Jefferson and Burr, An old Federalist, many years since, , informed me, that, at the time of that contest, when the election of either was deemedhopeless, tho Federal party contemplated electing James Ross President pro tem of tho Benote, and, thus making him President of the United States. In 1844. John SUdell by the Flaquemine fraud, carried Loaisana for Polk. This first instance of ballot staffing, has been. unproved upon since in California, Philadelphia, Kansas, Indiana and Minnesota. Slidellianowa Senator from Louisiana, and a bosomfriend of Buchanan. Bright and Fitch are two bogus Senators from lodiana, who were never elected legally, as the Senate decided in Harlan’s ease. Now wc have Shields and Rice, Bogus Senators from Minne sota, but, they are not admitted yet, and their admission-may turn on the Leeomplon Constitu tion. If they go for that fraud, Buchanan’s sourthem masters will graciously admit them, if they go with Douglas they will surely bo re jected, for no Republican, in view of the elec tion frauds, can vote to admit them. 'Without doubt, they win go with the Sooth to save their seats. So the Lecompton swindle seems sore in tbe Senate. John Calhoun and U. Clay Pate or Atchison will probably, bo the Bogus Senators from Kansas. Of course, they wilt be admitted. Time was, when Hunter, Pierce and Toombs would havo hesitated to countenance £rand, v to gain an advantage, but that was before they discovered that slavery was a divinely ordered institution, and that the slave-holders were the divinely ordered governors of those Uoiled Slates. * The London correspondent of the New Tork Commercial writes under date of De cember 18: The infliiw of gold at the Bank of England continues at an extraordinary rale; In the dis- money ia becoming abundant at 8j to 9 per from Paris we have the news-*fia;;torthefc. reduction by the Bank of France, their charges, which on the f.ih were fixed at G. 7 a**- 1 ° • ■ .--J . !r«j;i , -, I-, v , ■ . ■ % .. . fnlaif meful and de-1 The news now received from America by each packet continues to have a good effect. It is believed that Messrs. George Peabody & Co. could, by some moderate sacrifices, have done without the promised advance from the Bank of England altogether. The probability seems to bo that it will be used only to a partial extent. The attempt to launch the Leviathan has al ready cost $850,000 and has not yet succeeded. For the present any further efforts, sre .suspend ed, the real cause being want of money. She will doubtless be got off at last, but whether by government help remains to be seen. It has been a ruinous affair to the shareholders, but they vent into it with their eyes open; as they ought to have known what they had to ex* pect from any pecuniary enterprise under Mr. Brunei and Mr. Scott Russell, they ore not much to be pitied. Gov. Denver’s Cave is.— The hew Governor had scarcely arrived in the Territory of Kansas when he was wailed upon by Gen. Eldridge with the request that he (Denver) should yield to the people the arms token away from them by Geary. A correspondent of the; N, V. Times says: “All these, Gov. .Geory from time to time had promised Cot Eldridge to restore. The execu tion of this promise bos, however, been contin ually evaded by Geary and his successors, till finally Col. (now General) Eldridge had, at all hazards, resolved to have them* Consequently, he went up to Lecompton yesterday, with about fifty well-armed men and three wagons for the transportation of the arms. The men were left about a mile out of the town, while GeheralEU dridge rode in, with CaptrCfacklio, and sought the Acting-Governor in his office. That gentle man was at dinner, but, ’receiving intimations of what was going on, ho adjourned that duty till a more convenient season. Gen. : Eldridge briefly narrated to him the facts, in courteous terms, and stated that he had been trifled with till his patience was exhausted, and that he had now come for the last time on that errand; that he ,had come now to tako tho arms; that he would greatly prefer to take them by consent of theGoveroor, but, at all events, he must have them!” After_a great deal of parley, Denver at last gave up the arms, yielding to necessity what be refused to duty, thus measuring his neck for the great Kansas knife, which hangs up at Washington for decapitating Governors. Washington Correspondent of the Philadelphia a letter of Jan, 2: “The President baa’ strongly expressed his determination to stand by his position on Kansas affairs. lie says he will sink or swim with'the policy of hia message on this subject. It has be come more than ever apparent that the nearest way to a pocifio adjustment of this threatening question is the reception of the Lecompton’con etitution, especially since it has become certain that: the free State party of Kansas have deter mined not to take part in the election for Slate officers, and to adhere to the Topeka constitution/' .
