The, inimitable and acconiPlishedlihaDavenport is playing at the Theatre to houses nothing like what she usually has here. The reason is not that every body is not interested In the admirable perform anew of Miss D., but because every one is de pressed in spirits on account of the prevailing panio in the money world, and because. the weather has Proved so inauspicious. She ap peared last evening in her great character of Camille. Her admirable simplicity of character and her high 'reputation for talent and accom plish-Amu, ensured for her in advance as good a house as under the exceeding unfortunate cir cumstances of out door life she could expect.— Miss Davenport succeeds in clothing this char-. enter in a grace and pathos which wins upon the heart of her audience far more surely and impresses it more deeply than any of her com peers. We like her rendering of the play and her translation of it better than that of any other now upon thel stage. There is no good ground of comparison between her Camille and that of Miss Heron. The latter, a lady of eminent talent, is too Wend in her acting of this. In that one italicised word we think there is, in this connection, much meaning. Miss Daven port suggests nothing that is painful or unpleas ant, save what belongs legitimately to the char acter of a coquette. Heartlessness, folly, and untruthfulness receive their reward. There is nothing more intended and that is the and. The Sanford Troupe is at Masonic Hall, and with their round of drollery and quaint Ethio pian conceits, are great favorites. We can never see these minstrels with their faithful Cur ricature of the black man on the plantation or in the waiting room, without thinking that.it lakes about as much character to be what the plantion darkey is, os to be a white man With nothing to do and no disposition to do anything. Thereto a great desire to see the Sanford troupe and they have-had, hitherto, very. geed hones. lions. MERAttANTS' S MANUrACTUREILS'.IIASC—AIt- IMO Or A IlnonEn og A CuAROE•or • FitArb.-011 Friday of last weak a bench warrant was issued by Julgii Hampton cgainst James O'Connor, banker and broker, of the firm of O'Connor Bros., and on yesterday he was arrested on that warrant. ;It was issued on oath of John Scott, President pro tern. of the Merchants' & Manu facturers' Bank, of this city. The allegation was that of fraud in obtaining of the said' bank the sum of 5155,000. A preliminary hearing took place last evening at about six o'clock, be fore Judge Hampton. Mr. O'Connor gave bail in the sum of $200,000 to appear for hearing on Saturday next at nine o'clock. C. lhmsen, Esq., became bondsman for the appeamnre of O'Con nor in the above sum, and the latter was dis charged. Immediately upon the discharge as above, Mr. CE.Cantior was again arrested, and on oath of Mr. John Scott, MS before. The allegation was this time of conspiracy with 'Wilson Blakeney, late book-keeper in the M. &M. Bank,-in ob taining the sum of s3lo,ooo.from the said bank. He was taken before Alderman Johns, 'end give bail to an amount which we did not learn, nor do we.kaow who were his bondsmen. The latter part of the business was done with dispatch, and consequently it was not without some diffi culty that we could gelthese meagre facts. The whole agair will receive proper examination on Saturday. at which time the first charge at least will be legally investigated. The allegation is. we.believe, that Mr. O'Con nor overdrew his account at the bank to the ex tent of $310,000, and that Mr Blazonry, the clerk, was privy to the fist, without making it known to she Directors The whole affair has caused considerable ex citement throughout the city, and has been the subject . of runtSrs and reports without number. Tue ascension of Mons Godard was unavoida bly postponed, yesterday, on account of the dis agreeable weather, but will positively take place this afternoon, from the north west square of the Diamond, Allegheny, at 44 o'clock.
