This is not to save the Union, hat to iiii4ralitle it. Do you remember those line old lines 7 "So I think it is with love of the Union.— Those only really love it well, who love justice and freedom more. A Union based on wrong is no true Union. A Union between afrogant ty rants and mean sycophants is not worth pre serving. Gentlemen, slavery is the great evil of the country. All our danger comes from it.— Apparently, however, you think the danger to consist in the discussion of slavery rather titan in slavery itself.. This is about as wise as it would be to suppose t lint the chief danger in a conflagration comes from springing the rattles, ringing the bets and getting out the engine. A drowsy citizen sleeping comfortably. sunk deep, in feathers, may think the noise the chief evil. But the noise may be his salvation. - THE INDIA Tana.—The Boston Transcript states that. the India trade of that city, which has been a losing business for the last six modha, has revived under the influence of'ihe news of the India troubles. Nearly all descrip tions of goods are new paying handsome profits to importers. The receipts of merchandise at Boston from the various India port, will proba bly greatly exceed in quantity and value the importations of any previous year. A large number of ships aro now due. SICCOND NI/LIIIIMOS.—"Where a woman," says Mrs. Partington, 'tits onto married with a con gealing heart, and one that beats responsible to her own, she will never want to enter the maratime state again." Gov. Walker has been much frightened by the threats of rejection by the Senate. He is now heart and . haul with the extreme Pro- Slavery faction. He has eaten all his past fair promises, and Went most humble dispatches from Kan Sits for the Southern market. Whitfield, who is now here, reports Walker as at present the pet of the Border Ruffians. Since Walker's conversion, nobody doubts the perfect success of the intended Border Bullion invasion - from Missouri of the polls of Kansas. The demonstration against Walker and his alleged Kansas policy by the secession fanatics and other traitors, represented by the Charles- Lod Jlercurp and the Richmond South, has been perfectly successful. It has caused Walker to explain away all his promises of fairness and justice toward the Free State citizens, and to adopt nearly th'e samt measures for tilt final establishtnent and triumph of Slavery as were pursued by Shannon and Woodson. He him put himself at the head of the army, virtually proclaimed martial law, and kept his dragoons chasing Free State men, whom, when caught, he throws into prison on old political charges. The South much prefers this service at Walker's hands to his removal.; and, in fact, I suspect prefers him ao a tool tar their purposes to any other than an out-and-out slaveholder at.,l Bor der Ruffian like Atchison or Stringfellow. I am informed that the President, at Bedford Spring+ anal elsewhere, openly expressed view., of Walker's course identical with Stephens's. condentned his isothermal nunnery, and aid that Walker was not sent to Kansns to talk. but to act. 11e..11 as st eadily assured complaint s, when he has given them any attention, that, sag what he might, Walker would do what the South requirt4.l. Of course, the President. was compelled to endure the stupid denunciations of a few ferocious zealots who dial not understand the game, and insisted upon Walker's "head in a charger." That was n little indulgence that could not be accorded them, but they will bp restrained from proceeding to any dangerous extremities by people more sensible than them selves. EL= All these threats of Southern opposition to Buchanan in Congress amount only to this, that the South is resolved to hold him to the Bonier- Ruffian platform, to the end that Kansa. , shall he presently admitted as a Slave State. and Cuba. Porto Rico, he., annexed as soon as possible. These moderate demands will he granted by Mr. Buchanan with great cheerfulness, and all things will go on comfortably between him and the party. The formal declaration of the Washington Union that Kansas 19 sure to become a slave State, has naturally produced a lively shnsaQon. Its significant averment that Kansas must by —inevitable consequence" enter the Union it slave StatP. noutt have been made with the eon current, of the Pre,ident. The Congressional elections are over. Martial law is in farce in Kansas.-- The prisons are again being filled with Free State !ROIL The Pro-Slavery Convention is about to assemble, and will force the adoption of its Constitution by arty and every means. Walker will continue to make fair speeches. but is doing and will do all that lies within the -power and influence of his othee to make Kansas a slave State, as the ("Pion predicts. By successive efforts of intelligence' and resolution we are at last sending not a great ex pedition to India : anti most of our readers will have to open their eyes. and look around, anti sum up, and compare, before they can appreci ate the magnitture of the work and ifs place in the world's lii , tory. Mosey Deco AND SUGAII r..‘ r. —The Bank Statement this morning shows an average cur tailment in Loans and Discounts lost week of three and a half millions dollars. This process has made money suddenly dear. It is now called twelve instead of seven per cent. per annum nn the best mines. The Sugar speculators in Ha vana and their coadjutors and factors here, it is said, nearly all come under this classification nu bank and in the discount offices. We do their credit no harm therefore in saying that they pay dear for their whistle—ar sugar, as the case may he. They crowded our Batiks and Trust Companies, with their paperin June. nt 7 per cent., and are now renewing it at 12 per cent Meanwhile, what with depreciation in price wastage of sugar and leakage in 'Molasses, they find themselves in the same category with the poor Railway Shareholders—about 311 or .10 pe r cent. worse off in the speculative world of South and Wall streets, than at the start. Having the advantage, however of high credit, they can stand 110 days longer to see the turn of the greatcorner in this prime neccesstiy, and no damage dohs. per haps, to the money lender. The consumers all over the country•, quietly looking on, and using as little '•sweetening" ns the family can get along with, wish the party no other luck than thebare preservation of their good name at. The feeling is natural enough, after what we have seen of dear sugar for six or eight months past, and the present probability is, it will be speed ily gratified by a further material decline in Cuba Sugars, and the incoming of u large crop from Louisiana.—N.
