MoKINNEY SNODGRA3S, of Mifflin Prom the London Times ofJuly 1 It is extremely difficult to compress within the limits of our summary; the details which have reached as in the last fortnight concerning the mutiny of the Bengal arm?! It must suffice to say that the rebellion is universal in that di vision of the Indian forces, and that it has been thought necessary to disarm The very corps (the 70th Native Infantry) which was.publicly thank ed by the Governor-General in person for its loyalty only three weeks ago, while the 6th Re. eimeat Native Infantry at Allah:shad. which had rivalled It in its expressions of attachment to the government, has risen upon its officers, and foully murdered them. It is with deep gratification that we turn Ak a moment from the consideration of these pain ful events to notice the fact that not a symptom of disalleillion has appeared as yet in the armies either of Marlins or Bombay, which manifest the most perfect loyalty in the presence cf this tLta geroys example, and which repel indignantly every attempt that has been made to wince them from their allegiance by 'emissaries from the Bengal troops. A. statement found Its way into the Calcutta papers Pomeutime ago to the effect that the 10th Madras Native Infantry had refused to receive the cartridges in Burmah, but we have looked in rain for any confirmation of the news. The Bengal native army has ceased to exist. The regiments which have not openly mutinied have ceased to be trusted and are watched with much anxiety. The fall of Delhi, which is still delayed, naa which we await - with intense desire, will doubtless do more to quench the spirit of - this rebellion than any measure that can be adopted by Government. The Delhi Raj has a powerful hold upon the memory of India still; and while the city remains in the hands of the rebels the country will he unsettled from the Himalayas to (lips Comorirt. We are look ing with much anxiety towards the Nizam's country, the Ist Regiment of Cavalry Intringre volted at Aurungabad, and a rising occurred at Hyderabad_ The following are the stations at which the troops have broken out into open violence up to the date of our advice!: *Meerut, °Nusscerabad, Jullundur, •Delhi, .Neemuch, Admghur, Ferotepore, &pares, Futtebghur, Illyghur, .Hanoi, Jaunpore, Roorkeo, "llissar, .Rareilly, Murdaun, *Jhansi, *Shahjehanpore Lueknow, Mehidpore, We have indicated by an asterisk those sta tions at which the women and children of our countrymen have fallen into the hands of the soldiery, and it is better to draw a veil over the barbarities they have endured from these morel lese fiends. At the remainder of these stations the officers were murderously assaulted, the bungalows fired, and at most of them the trees uries looted. We are informed that Lord Elgin has deter mined to direct all the troops for China to pro ceed to Calcutta. On the ith inst. his Lordship and General skaliburnham were at Penang. The dispatch of a considerable force to China from home at this juncture is truly providential ; and, as no difficulty will be experienced in intercept ing it, we hope to hate the forcesoon in Bengal. Our Government (Bombay) has dispatched a mission to the'Cape of Good Hope and Maori-, tins, under Captain Jenkins, to bring up as large a force as can be spared from those 'colo nies to our assistance, and it is thought proba ble he may succeed in getting us a reinforcement of 4,000 or 6,000 men. BLUMAII YOUNG has some seventeen or eigh teen of his wives in his "Lion House." Each wife has a separate sleeping apartment, exceptin case of discarded ones, who sleep by twos. The rooms are scrupulously clean and neat; suf ficiently but not well furnished. They are the sitting rooms during the daytime for their oc cupants. When well, all in that and the adjoin ing houses are expected to eat at the general table. It is a curious epectacle in Brigham's dining hall. Wives, children, 'workmen, visit ore, a crowd of hungry dinner seekers. It needs no small amount of cooking, nor any slight quantity of eatables. Brigham keeps uo servants; his wives, unless sick, wait on them selves. In that case they must wait on each other. Cooking, cleaning, dairy work, washing, mending, tending children, has to be disteibuteu among them according to the taste and skill of each ; or else, by the absolute and final dictum of the Prophet! Before the general table eye tem was adopted, each wife was supplied in rotation, and by weight and quantity, with veg etables, fruits, &c. Like old feudal barons, Brigham is obliged to keep a steward and put veyor for his numerous dependents. It must not be imagined that these wives lead an idle life. Brigham is a working man. Stern ly practical in his views of policy, keeping the wlfble of the people constantly and diligently at work, he makes his household a Fattesn for the Saints. "There must be no idler's in Zion, no drones in the hive," is Brigham's hobby cry, and consequently the whole of his family 'Work. Ills eons among the stock, herding, branding, driving. "If a woman can not support herself, and partly provide for her family, she is only half a Woman," say the Mor mon domestic-acme:plats. IT is stated that nearly every manufacturer of domestio goods at the Eastward is eitifer run ning hie machinery without profit, or sinking capital—a fact that has induced the producers 'to suspend the opendions of a portion of their looms. Soine seven thousand looms engaged in the production of Oenaburge alone have been stopped inthe New England States, and it isnot improbable that the production of , nearly all kinds of white goods will becurtailed fully one;. third during the next ninety days, in which event there is almost a certainty of a substantial advanco in prices. C,ommisaloit dealers are, therefore, very , naturally acting With extreme caution, while Western and Southern Merchant& and the local jobbers manifest no disposition to purolume more than is absolutely necessary to meet their most urgent requirements... Much of the work is per formed by preparatory committees, and in sonic of these committees the My element is largely introduced. The Stationing Committee comes first in order. This is exclusively clerical. It is composed of the President and Secretary of the last rotifer ence, and one minister from each district, who is elected by the district meeting as their repro— sentatiVes, and to whom both the ministers and members in the district communicate their wish es. This Committee met on Thursday, the 16th loot., and, after several days' consultation, pre pared a !.plan of appointments." This plan is now printed, and every member and minister can procure a copy. This is styled the first draft. After the cnaracter of each minister shall bare been examitied in conference, and every relation fixed, which will net be for two weeks, the committee will hold a second session to revise the plan. They will listen to all re presentations and object ens which may be mad , , and will make such alterations as may ha con sidered expedient. The plan will then be read in conference, without remark, and on the sec ond reading each member is at liberty to make any suggestions or objections which he may choose, and these will be considered by the con ference, and the case will be decided. There'l are some advantages connected with this plan of I making the appointments; but there are disad vantages also; which are very manifest. In the I Irish conference the district meetings prepare and send to conference a plan of appointments, such as is judged hest for the district. On Wednesday, the 22d, the Committee on the Home Mission and Contingent Fund assem bled. This consists of about twenty ministers, with nearly an equal number of laymen, selected from the different districts. This fund is col lected to aid in localities where ministers are not sufficiently supported, and to provide for various contingencies, as also, tto extend the work by the establishment -of Home missions. The spirit of aggression, which had seemed to slumber for a time, is greatly quickened among our Wesleyan brethren, and I believe that they are preparing for greater achievments than they have yet made. . On Thursday the Chapel Fund Committee met. This was constituted to aid in the liquidation of debts on the chapels; to grant loans, without interest, where - donations could not be made; and to encourage the erection of . new chapels, under proper restrictions. The auccess attend ing their efforts has been exceedingly gratify ing. In three years, notwithstanding the die arroes effects of the la e agitation , they have paid debt, amounting to nearly $BOO,OOO. In the same time they have aided in the erection of new churches to the amount of $860,000, on which very little debt remains. An exceedingly encouraging feature in the report was that every loan, without exception, had been promptly re raid, according to the arrangements made. A general fuellig of rejoicing pervaded the delib erations of the Committee; arid, as one of the speakers remarked., “they were all on one side." When I enter'-d the chapel I found on the plat form the President and Secretary of the Confer ence, and the Secretaries and Treasurers of the various funds, among whom seats had been re served for Dr. M'Clintook and myself. Mr. Heald, formerly a member of Parliament, and, evidently, et-man of superior business qualifica tions, was addressing the Committee, and was urging to greater efforts in the erection of churches. number of the most influential laymen from various parts of the kingdom wet • on the Committee, and each one of them seemed determined that no effort should bo spared iu advancing the ifiterests of Methodism. Such a collection of the leading men of the Church, counseling as te the best practical modes of operation, must accomplish great good. As one of the speakers will remarked, the heart of the Methodist body must be sound, when imme diately succeeding such terrible agitatioas, it had put forth such efforts, and was now prepar ing for greater exertions !hem ever before. I have seldom spent a morning more pleasantly than in listening to the speeches made in this Committee. Friday morning was devoted to the Committee on Kingawood and Woodhouse Grove Schools. These arc schools where the sons of the preach ers are boarded, defiled and educated. They are received at eight years of age, !and remain for several years. I learned from !the reports presented that the schools were in a prosperous condition. The'reports occupied so much time with details not interesting to a mere spectator, that but little opportunity remained) for general discussion. Among the active laymen present I noticed Thomas Farmer, Essm of the vicinity of London, and whose name is connected with nearly every Methodistic enterprise. The Committee'on the Sabbath mot on Friday evening. Last year its discussion's were very interesting, as active measures ware required to defeat the bill sanctioning Sabbath amuse ments.. But this year there was no new meas ure, and, consequently, there was less feeling The Sabbath is not as strictly observed in Eng land•na it is in America. Here the railroad companies issue excursion tickets for the Sab bath at greatly reduced prices, and, hence, there is more than the ordinary traveling on God's holy day. To-day—Saturday, July 25th—a committee is in session not unlike our Committees on Ne cessitous Cases. A few men, some of whom are Unitarian in sentiment, and others - are infidels, have been very busy in writing against Doctor M'Clintock and myself, as the pro-slavery representatives of a pro-slavery Church. I learn, also, that they have Received communications from America, which I suppose, have stimulated them to activ ity. Persons connected with other denomina tione--those, too, of high standing in their Churches—and some who claim' to be very friendly to us when it is their interest so to ba —have secretly sought to poison the British' public against us. Their coadjutors hpve gone so far as to get resolutions passed at anti-slavery meetings requesting the k Wesleyan conference not to receive us. Paper s, too, in the interest of Catholics, and those sympathizing with the Independents, have admitted communications attacking us. But all their efforts hare signally failed. Everywere we have been received and treated as the messengers of the Church, and an brethren beloved, for our mission's ;sake. Nor have we met a Christian of any denomination, much less a Wesleyan, who has °vino' d any lack of fraternal sympathy because of these assaults. -Some of the principal Wesleyans here think that the design is to injure not us personally, but the cause of Wesleyanism. But, fortunate ly, it occupies too high ground. historically, to be affected by such efforts: The men are still living who, in the West Indies, suffered the severest persecution ; and, as a dememination, they received the high compliments of a Wilber force and his associates. But I must close, tic the steamer will sail ill a few hours. M. S. Liverpool, Ally 26, 1857. A DEMOCRATIC DAGUERREOTYPE or TUE Dam- CIIATIC PARTY.--Carponter, of , the Madison (Wis.). Patriot, gives ut the following specimen of his off-hand method with his brother Demo crate "Why is our party to-day on its knees before the, world? It requires no soothsayer or sor cerer to answer that question. The party has played with edged tools, as dull as old hoes at that—and has got cut; it has flirted with cyprians, and got jilted; it has slept with pilfering shavers, scoundrels and knaves and has caught the barber's itch. It has breathed the pestilential malarisfuroing from the lairs of old, rotten, unprincipled, scurry-hpaded, milk-and water, broken down, cast off, leprous pukes, cad cerous thieves, superannuated pickpockets, trea sury plundering, refuse Abolition, office-seeking, whisky soaked, double distilled buffoons rand Penitentiary scallawags—who have preyed and gorged upon the party and the people, until the substance of each is almost exhausted; and they look as, lean, lank, thin, savage and cadaverous ae starved hyenas, confined in thedDismal Swamp of terior and adversity, through a thousand eternities of snow, 'sleet, hail, rain, thunder r lightning, tempests and irretrievable famine.' Such is the malady that has overtaken the Democratic party of WisConsin. It his been laid on thick and fast, with -double coating-- shingled, mortared, tarred, nlastered, and rub bed in, until the party resembles more the ghost of a spring oolt—dead, demised, deceased and done for, without skirt, , flesh or bonee—than anything having life, longevity; elasticity, vigor, vitality, or wide awa ke component parts." . , . &Tema of the Tennessee election, the4lem phis Bidlain, of the 7th, remarksthat the re turns "are of .5 ..coM , plation to indicate pretty dearly that the' current of the . popularjudginent has - been setting heavily ag ainst the/merman, party.
