TUC Eger COMMANDERIa IXDIA.—The tele graph Ijfa2 uneestheltidian news by the Indian, arrive at guebee on the 9th, as follows: .Dates from Bombay blot July. "The mutiny gni spreading among the troops of the Bengal army. I .'The ex-king of t u b e had been arrested and im prisoned, proofs of his complicity in the revolt har ing -been obtained." ,The English government has taken the most active me:flares to send a commander of their armies to India worthy the great occasion. As soon as a 'certainty that a strong force was needed in their Indian possessions became rdp parent in England, ships, ammunition and an additional force of 2000 men were embarked for the scene of the rebellion. Sir Colin Campbell was notified that he had beep chosen to be com mander-in-chief, and answered that "he would be ready to proceed to the seat of war to-mar sew." A telegraphic despatch from London detained the government mail steamer at Mar seilles until such time as steam could convey Sir Colin thither, and in about 'three days from the time of his appointment, a return dispatch an nounced in the British capital that he was on board the ship en route for his command., This great field for the display of English valor and, we may add, rapacity, wttv perhaps never occupied by to brayer or more experienced! veteran. The history of British conquests in India has never yet been fully written. In de tached portions even, it is more like dondance than plain mat!er of Net. Tho dashing crereer of Lord Clive, as it was by all the bra, ery of the Anglo-Sacon and all the cunning and duplicity of the East Indium the rap-, -ids and energy of Hastings, whose subsequent trial in England torsos an era in British Parliamen. tell, history; and kite swift conquests of Napier whose despatches were not surpassed in brevity or in the progress they disclosed by thoseof cresar himself, will serge as examples which the new commander, judging from his past leimoryd will not be slow to imitate. Forty-nine years ago, he WAS in the Peninsular war, and was one of the forlorn hope at the storming of Badajos; he was with the Iron Duke in:the Battle of Waterloo: he has once before held command in India; he was at the head of his Highlanders in the battle of the Alma in September, 1854; he commanded the Scotch Grey which repulsid the charge 'of Genera Liprandi near Sebastopol; and he was an acto , in the final attack on that city on the Ath Sep tember, 1855. One =Math subselluent to that time, this man then seventy years of age, resigned the emu ' • nutiul of his division; timing' . deterthined to spend the remainder of his days in quiet retire meal. To-day he is again on his way to aid in easing the British dominions in India and from a man with each antecedents we have a right to expect deeds fit to crown a career of even ouch military distinction as his. Tue SCUMER ELECTIONS.—On the first Mon day in August (last Monday week) election were holden in Alabama, lowa, Kent uckr Texas .ad Missouri The elections in Tenncisee and in North Caro lina were on the first Thursday of this month. In lowa the choice of County officers and the adtiption or rejection of the new State Constitu tion were the matters at issue, and from present indications, the Republicans have been enticement. In Kentucky and North Carolina, members 'of Congress only were elected; in Tennessee. Ala bama and Texas, members of Congress and Go, mom in Missouri, Governor and Judges of the Supreme Court. As for as heard from indications tee that Rol , lint (Emancipntion) Ischosen Governor of ;11 i% iouri. In Kentucky the Locofocns have elected eight and the K. Tennessee, as far as heard from, shows six locos and two Know Nothings two districts to heiM from. Etheridge and Hirer; are beaten. NoilliCarolina sends six locus and two Know Nothings. She haslibree of the latter is the last. house. Alabama is, of course, ••dewo cratie." As fur as known certainly at the mo ment of this writing, the Administration ha. X l elected 19 and the K. Mthsonax.—We begin to believe that, in spite of die tyranny of slavery, the great State o' Missouri is in the broad road to redemption.— It has been too good to think of even. that I, lotsoftico mold be defeated on the emaneipat ion issue in the slave State of Missouri.
