The reasons for this opinion I will proceed to state: The slayery question, which it is possible your op ponent- proposes to discus., has eery recently been thoroughly considered and passed upon by the pee , plc of this Commonwealth. If the praetiee be once adopted, it will doubtless continuo, and party nominations be uniformly made with reference. to it. No party will sentare to select 'cuuitdatefor this Mhos who is not quelified for the stymie and aptitude for debate will hence become to be preferred to administrative ability. This is via* laughable—Gen. Packer, the very per sonification of cold, calculating selfishness to be governed by a solicitude for the interests of others ! Why, those much-talked of old canal rata in the neighborhood of Williamsport--his former associates—would shake their venerable heads in merriment at such a supposition„ and even the chaste and retiring J. Ponca Beau- Ler, the chosen friend of the Buchanan Admin istration, and the boon companion of public corruptionista, would almost split his fat sides in laughing at it Assamrs ov• TILE 'altruist/a:T.—The Pemayl ranian, with a Pharisaical sanctimoniousness that is edifying to witness, says it dare not attack the Judiciary for its decisions affecting political questions, on account of the deep reverence it feels for everything in the shape of a Court.— Bah ! If the decision of the Court of Common Pleas in the Philadelphia Contested Election case had been at all assailable—if the corrup tion and villainy exposed by that court were not palpable and unquestionatie—if the develope meets made by its investigations were not of such a character as to defy explanation or de nial from the party that was damned by them— the Pennsylvanian would have been into the wool of its Judges without a moment's hesitation.— 'Where was its respect for the Judiciary when the New York Democracy were not only bitterly assailing the courts of that State but setting them at defiance l Did it rebuke its party friends for their course? Did it condemn the Ohio democracy for spitting upon the decision of the Ohio Supreme Court in a late slave ease! Has it a word of censure for the Post, of this• eitx, -- which a few days ago traveled out of the record to assail a democratic no a "Republican' court, and moc! its decision as a mere political fulmi nation? 'No ; and until it learns to exact from its political associates the veneration for jndi dal decisions which it pretends to feel, ore must be excused front believing in so much sanctity. The democratic party aid press have never yet respected the Judiciary that happened to be against them, any more than their opponents have done; and in the very nature of things it must be that courts which decide questions growing. out of political conflicts, will subject themselves to assaults from those who are on the losing aide. Necessity enforces the submission of the people to judicial decrees ; but the rea sons and arguments on which Haase decrees are founded are just as open to discussion aml con demnation as those of the metes: politician.— The political dunagotrue on the beta.% is et more sacred/'than the same demagogue On the stump. He may have more power hut he is entitled to no more respect. In the great RI rug. gles of the world for freedom, hitherto, it bar been necessary, in order to overthrow th.wpo tisms, to overthrow first the courts behind whirl' the} here sought and obtained shelter. As to the decision of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas in the late contested election case, we can understand why the Pennsytranion DAILZ NOT assail it. That decision exposed so much of the rottenness and villiany of the dem ocratic party in Philadelphia that it will not do to stir it up or make a disturbance about it. Better to submitnnietly and draw off attention from it. The least said about it the soonest mended. It will noittio for the people of the State to know too much of the frauds upon the ballot-box by which Pennsylvania woo carried last fall and to which Buchanan owes his ekt lion. There is defeat r....d disaster to the democ racy in any such wide-spread knowledge.— Therefore keep silent as the grave about it; and if any one asks why, say it is the deep rever ence felt by the democracy for the decision of the Courts, even though those decisions be against them! Thus the party may be able to snatch the credit of a virtue out of its 111,400 vice. But escape from the consequences of that de cision is not thus to be accomplished. If the democracy will be silent, and affect to be no shipping the while, it will afford their opponents the greatest plexsure in the world to disturb their devotions at the foot of the throne at which they have been bumbled. Political ras cality cannot be concealed under a guise so transparent as this. The democratic party went deliberately into the work, last 'all, of cheating the people and defeating their voice by forcing Men into office against- the popular will through the agency of the most disgraceful frauds;: and now that the Court has exposed these frauds and laid them hare to the light, the people will avail themselves of the opportunity to look on and see how corrupt it is possible for a party to become, even though that party should put on the most righteous airs. A GOOD Ilrr.—A Mississippi editor notices the fact that the people of the South are sup plied by the North with all such little tie CVISII. les as Preserves, Pickles, Ketchups, Dried Fruits, &a. and wonders why the Southern people will not attend to making such things themselves and so, it adds t .ttake a spoke out of the wheel of the greatMLlek Republican wagym which in its onward movement threatens to crush us out entirely." The New Orleans Aid- Inin gives the proper answer ; it says : ' , Of course there is no reason why the domestic in - dastry of Mississippi should not ho developed, why fruits, preserves and a hundred other ilinAs should not be prepared for market, if the people, instead of swing &sawn; would turn their attention to them. It is extraordinary to what an extent the attention of the people of the South has been diverted from developing its physical resources nod that making Itself wealthy and really independent, by the miser able humbug of perpetnally straining their eyes to. distant., fantastic objects throUgh the artful dodges of political mountebank.- And yet, what else can the people of the South do, so long ea they cherish slavery in their midst. By making slaves Of their laborers they render labor as disgraceful that men who can help it will not work; and-in Um absence of a home industry to employ their talents and their enterprise, they turn their attention to politics.
