'Henan to get, wording, to the current calculations, nearly the entire Whig vote of that county; and it was -predicted that the old Whig organ-Ala:we, tbd- ./oditedifir thaminer, would come out openly for Buchanan. There screws to have been some fault in these calculations. Instead of meeting with over whelming popularity at home, Bochanan appears to bir more empoputai there than anywhere else throughout the State. Wenikre moat agreeably surprised, yesterday, °itemising the Lancaster Examiner, to god it brim full with enthusiasm for Fremont and Day ton. The Examiner is an old and influential. paper; and stood by the old Whig organization as long as there was any reason to hope for it, nay, when to adhere to it was hoping against hope. it now comes heartily into the support of the Philadelphia nominees, and nays: "The Convention- which met at Philadelphil latit week represented 01-the opponents of the present national administration, and all persons without distinction of party who are in favor of restoring the conditian of the Federal govern, meat to the principles of Washington and Jef ferson. We confess:Ad having entertained - but feeble hopes of the accomplishment of the de. alga for which the - Convention .was called—but the re snit eurparnieff the most sanguine expecta tions we had ventured to indulge. It is all we desired: The platform established Is one upon which every follower of Washington and Jeffer son among the founders of the Constitution, and of Ciny and Webster among -its later expound ere, can finely stand. "In extreme and startling contrast with the principles proclaimed at Philadelphia are those of the Cincinnati platform, on which James Ba citation stands. The Cincinnati platform denies the wisdom and repudiates the statesmanship of all Preaidents down to Franklin Pierce, for it makes a radical change in the hitherto uniform policy of the government.. Mr. Buchanan has ennk his Individaality in the platform. He says that being the repre sentative of the denmartio party, and not sim ply James Buchanan, he must spare hie conduct according to the p/atform of that party, mid insert no new plank nor tate onefrose it. He has thus expressly placed himself before the people as • platforns re.. - n , late—he has ceased to be simply James Buchanan, and has become the embodi ment of the Cincinnati platform, thereby absol ving the voters of this county and elsewhere from all obligations to support him on merely personal considerations. "From what we already see of public, opinion in this county; we feel justified to easertlng that the Whig vote will be thrown almost solid for Fremont and Dayton, while the American vote will be oast In the same direction with equal unanimity. The original anti-elavery men will of course aid with their entire strength. "rho reputation of Lancaster county for giv ing large majorities will in no wise suffer In No vember next—and then as heretofore,' the Old Guard will lead the column for the Constitution, the Union, and Freedom." This is cheering. There are now three pa pars In Lanostater county supporting Fremont, all of them edited pith ability and seal, and of large osculation—the Ezpreu, lately a Demo cratic organ; the Independent Whis, an Ameri can paper; and . the Examiner, the old line Whig organ. And they go into the support of the Philadelphia ttoket in no half-way epirit, but heartily and with • extreme earnestness. Tue Our.sor Cssrant. Rotrrsc —The Cincinna ti Railroad Record, is epeoulatiug upon the fu ture of railroads 111 the West, prediota a great change in the course of inland trade. The Bal timore and Ohio end the Pennsylvedia Central Railroads, it thinks, will eventually become the principal outlets to the Immense trade, which N. York inuiceeded In diverting from the great cen tral routes over the mouttelne by the construct tion of the Erie CenaL It is well known that previous to 1820 Baltistore .and Philadelphia were the foci of. Wotan commerce. dint New York having built the Erie canal, had only to connect with the Ohio canal, in order to appro priate to herself a large and rapidly increasing trade, which wu pursuing a non-direct, if not noct-eipeditions route. And we need not won der that that city, with this new source of wealth and greatness, added to her monopoly of the Mite trade, should at once become the great em porium of the country. Bat the Record thinks that another revolution is taklog place—that Baltimore and Philadelphia are about to recover all that they lost by the constraotion of the Erie canal. It argues thus: "This great motor of equality hue bean found, in the Railroad. This road, however, had to go not only to Philadelphia and Baltimore, but tkrouyA the entire west, to the banks of the hfitt ableippi. Atlength, dile has been done also, and we are now to see the effect. The next wee the obvious fact, now even in the operatlonaf the Erie canal, that the shipment of western produce, by that route is relatively *creaks, 9. Now, the Erie canal is not loosing the lake trade proper, but it le fast loosing that immense trade, which came from the great Valley of the Ohio; and which, render tho influence of the great Railroad Uses, termi nating at Philadelphia and Baltimore, must be diverted in that direction. There will be a great change, but, that change will only be found, in restoring trade to its natural channels, said in giving new outlets to the west. . That we make no mistake in the cause or di rection of the change going on, we give the fol lowing returns of the Pennsylvania Omani and Baltimore and Ohio Railroads, which are now before us, for tho month of April. A Mies firer.—The Buchanan papers are parading with much notion a vote or two given by Col. Fremont while in tho Senate, on the sub ject of abolishing Slavery in the District of Co lombia. The whole matter is thus matlifactorily set forth in the Tribune: "At the sessions of the People's National Con vention at Philadelphia, Incidental allusions were mode to a vote cast by Col. Fremont during the twenty-one days he occupied a seat in the Sen• ate, which was not regarded as Antis-Slavery in its character, and whiob some who doubted the propriety of his nomination feared might embar rass him during the canvass. Since then, we have taken some palm to examine the offal& journal of the Senate for 1850, and find that these objections vanish into thin air, when all the attandent eironustsitoes are considered. The objectionable vote was one where his name was found recorded spinet a propoaltion to abolish Slavery in the District of Columbia sub jeot to a popular vote upon the question. But an examination of the offiolal journal shows that but file Senator voted in Its favor, and that it was evidently not a test vote. The droutostan ass are as follows: On the 12th of September; the bill to suppress the slave-trade In the District of Colombia was pending, when Oov. Seward, to show by his record that he preferred to strike the institution out of existence altogether In the District, moved to strike out the whole bill from its enacting clause, and insert the proposition above referred to. It was rejected, as it was ex pected it would be, the vote standing you 6, nays 45. Among the nays with Col. Fremont were nub northern men as Roger S. Baldwin of Connecticut, John Davis of Massachusetts, Thos. Ewing of Ohio, H. Hamlin of Maine, Truman Smith of Connie:alone, and R. Q. Winthrop of Weaeschasetts. They preferred, doubtless to band their energies toward obtaining what was attalnabls—the breaking up of the slave pens and the olive amnions in the National capital— and on the 16th of September • the bill passed, Fremont and Dayton voting With all the North ern Senators in its favor—Atehlson, Jeff. Dole, Bailer, and the rest of that kidney, in the ne gative. Fremont voted against another prepo altion for an absolute, unconditional abolition of Slavery in the District, which was overwhelm ingly rejetted, and the success of which was ex pected by no one. Bet during the pendency of the bill suppressing the District Slave trade, sev eral votes were taken winch proved plainly enough where the young Califorelea's heart was, and to which side of the Senate Chamber his principles of humanity led bins. Oa the 14th of September, au amendment was pending prod ding that if • free person should entice or in duce a slave to run away, or should harbor any such, he should be immured in the Distriot Pen itentiary five years. The vote was a elm° one —Yeas 22, Nays 26. Bat oar standard bearers, Fremont Sod Dayton, voted No, and turned the sale against it, Among the Yeas were Barn well and Batter of S. 0.; Dawson and Berrien of Ga., (the 'State In which Fremont was born) Jeff. The old-line Whig papaw in the State, with- I out a singly exemption, go warm and strong for Fremont and Dayton.—Loseaster Examiner. Falnowr AT ins Soon—The Richmond (Va.) Whig asysibat Cot Fremont is men of action whose past- career, though wanting In the display of those qualities which become the statesman, is full of adienture, hardships, perils by land and sea hair breath 'teapot -and all that. The Whig adds there is hardly a doubt he will run well in the North, and it expresses It, mlegivinge that the election will be thrown Into the House of Itepresentstivee. It pictures Fremont as a man of courage, and says that his nomination is a striking illustration of the adroirossa and sagacity with which all the 'choices of the Republicans bare been conducted. The Savannah Georgian Is not able to tiontaln Its rage. It wonders why the earth about Savannah (Premonea birthplace) did not quake with Indignation at the pupae alieled outrage, &a. The Southern johruals generally aeem to fumy they must, as a matter of course, call Fremont and hie party Gallons, conspirators and the like. We tied more Fremont men among the Demo cracy here, than we had at first any idea of—the staid and anbatantial men of the party, who have heretofore lead the Democratic party to victory, repudiate the Cinoinnati platform, and, aa freely endorse that of the Republican party, adopted at. Philadelphia. It is no wonder the pro-slavery Democracy have become alarmed, and, have made arrangements to tens a new °Democratic journal. The power is fast "departing from IsraeL"—Strub. (0.)
