MORTALITY IS TEM COUNTY POOR 'IIOUSIL We fret heard of silciiness in our County Poor -House, which bas been lately opened. through the following article contained in the ,Iraskington Reporter. We hove since seen • gentleman who resides in the neighborhood. who verifies the fsciti stated: ~have been informed, by credible authority, that the cholera has broken out, within the past few days, at the Allegheny County poor House, and that some fifteen or twenty deaths bail al ready taken place among the inmate. This is very alarming, and we hope ere this there has been an abetment of this terrible disease, so !terral in its ravages wherever it has made Its appearance the past season. The , Poor House is situated eight miles this aide of riU.sburgh, in fell view of the Turnpike. Sinew writing the above; we bevel:igen favor ed with tSe perusal of a letter from a gentleman residing in the vicinity of the Poor House, from which we learn that on the let inst., there were term interments from the Hove; on the 2d ma, arid on the third three—and that up to the time the letter wan written, there had been, in all, thirty interments., The disease appears Co be a complicated one; some dying from' Dysentery, others from Typhoid Fever, but the majority from Cholefa. The Done has been open but a lite* over six weeks and contains about eighty inmates. From this number, the Mortality has been alarmingly severe, amounting' to over one third of the whole number! We have not heard anything later than Is contained in the letter to which we refer above, nor do we see thy allusion to the matter in the Pittsburgh papers, though it 'may have been referred to, nevertheless. The gentleman from wham we derive this information is apprehensive, at the time he Writes, that, If not coon checked, the Poor House will be deport tasted by,the disease which so fatally. prevails. - The location of the Buildings Is everyway fa vorable to thelealth of the inmates, and we can conceive of no localewase which could hare pro- dosed each unexampled mortality; - in so brief a spree of time. The Buildings are new, con structed upon the most approved.plan, an d with especial reference to the health of the inmates; and an no Cholera at present lingers In Pitts burgh or vicinity, iti sadden and Unaccountable appearance in this locality laiematter for won der, and baffles the sagest conjectures. The polls opened at Morrisania without a single 11/lig:State ballot being visible or proem-- able. There were of course enough of them on the ground, hut they were snug in the pockets of traitors; who were deep in the "Know-Nothing - ; conspiracy, and would not allow them to be .seen, Crowds of voter, came and went away, obliged to leave 'for the city in the morning care, hut, unable to obtain a Whig ballot, they were either I cajoled into voting the "Know -Nothing" or the Seymour ticket, or they - Voted for Assembly and I went away, The result is a vote of 270 or 280 I each for Seymour and Ullman, and but 70 .for Clark. and Ita!mond. We infer that a similar caper was cut in nearly every one of the towns , along the New Raven Railroad. 1 in the upper part of the County, a citizen ne wise connected with the Whig organjzatiou, was surprised and alarmed by enquiring on Monday for Whig State ballots and finding that none I were discoverable in his town, Somers. Re finally dispatched a messenger to Peekskill, • here the. Whig ballots were printed late ofF Monday higlatqlat were distributed through and voted in most of the Northern Whig towns yes terday—some of them reettived in season and some of them not_ The effect of such a hiatus, and the consternation it naturally inspired, may well be imagined. A still worse game was played at many .of the polls in this city—theiWhig ticket-boxes being held by traitors, who gave oat "Know-Nothing" ballots, no others being acceasible. By this and kindred tricks, the Whtg vote in this city is re duced to half what it would have been if oar bal lots had been insure hands and presented at eve. ry poll.
