On this impu di.4-1. pretence the Bulletin thus remarks : Hero we have it-distinctly stated that if, after thl - question of repealing the Nebraska bill is imbinitted to the people, and, on thr.t distinctly, stated issue, a majority of both houses of Con gress should be elected in favor of repeal, the President is---expected to veto the repealing enactment. The express will of the people is to have no weight whatever on a " democratic" President lie is to obey the party leaders ra ther than the people, And interpose the ex ecutive prerogative before the popular determi nation. At the same time he Is declared to lie' the servant of the people; the type of democra cy.; having no office but that which the people have clothed hiniwith, and nd object but the ex ecution of the .Popular with Was there ever a mere - flagrant violation of reason and freedom and repnbliesnism than this, or a moreimpudent attempt to place the great mass of thl; p4ple udder the despotic control of a single individual? The party in power find themselves driven to all sorts of desperate 6xpedients to defend their inconsistencies, but this will be the hardest to explain. After having carried lout the repeal of the Missouri Compromise, *lain it wawnot requiredand not demanded by the Peo-_ pie, it denies the people the privilege of repeal- . , ing the Nebraska bill, whichlvai always °heel ions to them, And . which can never win .the 6mv ermice Accorded to the time-honored enactment of 1820.: Truly ".democracy" is but a name, when the people arc thus to be scorned by their elected executive. But happily there is a rem edy for the evil, and President Pierce and Gov ernor Bigler, and alt the party bmdersAnd party organs who presume to violate repnblican prin ciples, may soon leans that the power of the people can still be exercised in other ways, even 'though they dare not repeal a pet party men, SUIT. The popularity of Judge rollock is evidenced by 'the attachment felt for him by everyman who has the pleasure of knowing lib* welL We have jitst been informed, in illustration of this, of. a 'remark made by, an elderly clerical gentleman WE; assisted in his early education ; and who al ways.voted the Democratic . ticket. The son , of this prominent Mal talented clergyman was last yearn candidate for the Legislature, on the' Democratic ticket, in ono of the counties of RAJMOM) BoNns.--The following- remarks, from the Railroad Journal, are seasonable, and express sentiments agreeing with our own: Throtighout the 'whole period of the recent decline, and in tbe present excited feeling which prevails, we lurio not heard the first word of complaint as to the proctudiresess of our rail- -roads. When they' were proposed, certain re- ,1 sults were predicated in their construction. It was faith in these results that lead to their con striction, and induced the capitalists to purchase their securities.. Those promises have not been broken. The capitalist has got in the aggregate all end even more than he contracted tor. In the expectation of realizing an interest of 7 per cent he gave par for the securities :of a partic ular toad. lie sees tbese securities : now selling , - at from 80 to 85; indicating a loss of 13 to 20 Per cent. Yet such securities 'are as much below their par value, or from'3o to 40 per cent . , below their average turient value. The explination for this exception to the guicral rule is in the fact, that the ati, pply of such securities exceeds the de mand, as tho value of such depends upon a law precisely Similar to that which regulates seer There isno doUbt that from the extraordinary confidence which Las pretailel for two or three „years past in the productivenessOf railroads. en -couraged by the great'abandance of money, that tendencies threatening the safety of investments in eackworks were rupidlydettioning themselves.
