They want to know what security they will have that some future political compromise - will not onite..the divided Whigs, and place them on a platforni they abhor, as was done in Baltimore, -in 1852.' The Demo cratic Anti-Slateri men wish to know whether theykre to be dragged on to a platform of explo ded measures, and made to sacrifice long-cher ished political predilections. It was highly characteristic of. Stynitins manners. Churchwell of Tennessee hail niade a speech on the Nebraska bill a month ago, in which be had made some peculiarly false and ungenerous im -putations upon Senator Bell, and his colleagues Cullum,-Tsylor and others in . the House: He 'had labored to excite against them the fanatical prejudices of their constituents, by falsely as serting that they were congratulated by such abolitionists as Giddings, Uerritt Smith, and Lewis D. CaMphell, on their Nebraska speeches and votes. Stung by the philippicof Mr. Bell in the Senate, Mr Cburehwell yesterday made a "personal explanation" in the House, in the course of which Oen: Callow antdilr. Campbell ' completely exposed the &laity of all his state meats by calling to the'stand the very witnesses Churchwell had referred to. They all denied hay " congratulated" Mr. Cullom on his excellent 'anti-Nebraska speech, and Mr. Giddings said that at the time he was charged with this grave offence he Was in Ohio. The encounter was of Churchwell's awn seeking, and he was dlly humiliated. This morning Mr.- Chttrchwell came into .ae Ilemse resolved to exhonerate himself from the ignominy of having been proved a falsifier of his colleagae's acts and motives. Accordingly he Placed a loaded pistol in the breast pocket of his coal, end at the opening of business declared, in the most offensive and insulting manner towards Callous that a part of his (Cullom's) remarks of the previous clay were false, though be had lis tened to them when delivered with perfeet egos stinsi ty. Cullom rushed toward Cininshwell, and at the instant, the latter drew his pistol and cocked it, awaiting his u.drersary . -with the apparent pur-* pose of shooting him dead when he should reach him: I Bay this is characteristic of Routh& man ners: Those terrible and bloody street fights— or rather deliberate murders—are briught on in precisely this way. A man having made up his mind to murder another for some real or fancied wrong, generally, as in this case, a verbal affront, aims himself with pistol end bowie knife, goes up up to his victim, c.allstdm a liar or coward, and if he resents it in any manner,.aboots him through the heart! It Was manifestly Chnrchwell's intention to go thriiugh that exact performance the louse of Representatives this morning: Mr. Hinson said he should to-morrow morning bring the matter to the attention of the House, and ask'for some action On its part to vindicate its dignity: But nothing wantione. In fact one of MUlson's own colleagues committed two out rages of nearly the same character during the Nebraska contest Edmondson left his seat, went over to John Wentworth, and belched out upon him a 'dream of such disgusting ribaldry as d—d-thief, d.dacoundrel, concluding with a threat to cane him it he tittered it word. The singular apathy of both Houses, as re gards business, is unaccountable. The Car roll Hose Company had their apparatus on • the ground and were playing upon the snioking ruins. A large crowd attracted our attention, and on going thither, we found some burnt fiesh• and bones, which were conjectured to be the remains of the boy who perish in the building. - The parents were';On the ground, and their lamenta tions were calculated to touch every heart.— The remains consisted of the neck and the scapula, with some flesh and hair attached. A physician arrived, and after a careful exam ination, pronounced the remains those of a dog, at which the crowd appeared much relieved.— But many presisted in the opinion that they were all that was Aft of the boy. Howev er the search for the bones of the lad was continued, as soon as the bricks could be cooled. There can be no doubt of the fate of the boy. He was the son of Irish parents residing in Tyler street, near Thompson. It was the first day of, his emplOyment in the factory. While working for Mr. °reeves, the cotton made him sick, and be laid down to sleep. Ile was in that state when the fire overtook him, and rendered escape impossible. There is a report that a female is still missing, and a workman relates that he saw her fall back into. the flames. Continued search among the ruins can alone relieve the fearful apprehension excited. It certainly seems remarkable that all but the boy should have escaped from the large building.. with only, one stairway, and that block aded by fire at an. early period of the disaster.
