Un theu hatred and discord will reign between fflee-The Pittsburgh Union has been rummag ing some old files of the Casette to find some want of consistency in our course on the slavery ques tion, and has fished up the following which It considers great spoil : "As to Utah, a territorial government might be formed for her, with or without the Wilmot Proviso, as it would not make, the least differ ence in the world. With free States on all sides of her, and with a free populaiion of some twen ty thousand freemen from the Northern States, to start with, there would never be any slavery there, or any attempt to introduce it!" This the Union says, is copied from the Gazette of 1850. 'we really have not time to search through our files to find the connexion in which it appears, but if the Union will publish the whole article, ire have no doubt its readers will discov er the same opposition to the encroachments of slavery which has ever marked our course. The Union, however, will please to understand that we do not claim wthat Fort of consistency that never changes, let the circumstances or the occa sion be" Whatthey nosy. We find many of the strongest supporters of the Fugitive Law, and the Coinpromise of 1850, now among their bit tercet opposers, and we honor them fo'r it. They are consistent with manly sense and true honor, which is better than consistency with previously expressed, but mistaken opinions.. Who would have supposed, in 1850. that the Compromise of 1820 would be repealed in four years after wards! With Nebraska as a free State there was littie or no danger of slavery going to Utah:— The case is now altered, and it shows the im portance of never surrendering a principle, even when of no practical importance, when we have such a wily and dangerous a foe as slavery to deal with. We can see no parallel, however,in the two cases: Utah was founded frets territory acquired from Mexico; and it was a fair subject for contest between the slave and free states. Nebraska had been.dedicated to freedom by a solemn compact, and ibe South had received and appropriated her portion of the territory acquired by the bargain. She now comes forward, after thirty-four years possession of her share, and dcritauds the portion aUottedto the free states. She breaks her com pact, violates her solemn treaty, and seeks to rob the North of her just rights; and the ..tymnts, knaves, demagogues, traitors, and dough-betuls, who aro leagued together" for this nefarious purpose, are aided and abetted by such men as the editor of the Union, who hare perjured them selves politically by breaking their faith with ,the country, as expressed in the Baltimore Plat form. For such teen to prateabout consistency, is equivalent to a thief complaining of the lack of public honesty. NEBILA3KAN.—The Ron. Representative from the fifth District wan" hung in effigy. ut Norris town, on the 24th, for his vote in favor of the Nebraska bill. Across the breast, "John "deN. the traitor to the North." . We learn these focts from the Olive Branch, in which we find a call for a meeting to be held at Norristown on Friday, June 2d, to protestngaiust the gala Representative's course.
