When the South claim that the right to take their property into all the Territo ries is a Constitutional right, they know that when this is conceded it will be easy to enforce their demands to carry their property into all the. States, .The Constitution overrides the Con stitutions a -the States, and the laws of the States, so that the State laws. against. Slavery will be inoperative and void." In this way Slavery is to spread itself over the whole Unita. The North may be assured the South will never be content until this is.aecomplished: • After the repeal of the Missouri Compromise and the an nexation of Cuba and Mexico, it will be com paratively en easy task. To successfully, resdst this meditated iniquity will require all the strength and all the patriotism of the North::-: The struggle will be fearful and protracted. Since Jefferson's administration there luta been virtually but two parties in the United States— a Slavery party - and nu Anti-Slavery party. The former luta worn the name of Democrat, and its opponentilume been called Federalists, National Republicans, and Whigs. The Democratic party. has maintained the best discipline, and has never really, been divided in any important-election.— 'The oppoilte party, on the other lantlilas sel dom entered A contest : as a compact body. It Las been weakened by seceding factions calling themselvea Anti-Masons, Native Americans, Free Sailers and Independent Democrats. - - In. - this way Slavery has generally obtained an easy vie tory. :It is very plain that these two great divi sions are to continue. The Slavery or Demo cratic party will maintain its discipline, and as heretofore be true to its cardinal feature, devo tion to the Slave. power. It seems destined, it is true,to lose a large body of its supporters in t e No rthern States, and to gain -a much larger force front the South. Fora number of, yearn the Whig party can hardly have a name to live at the South. There will, however, be a small but growing branch of anti-Slavery men In all the Southern States, as there ever hai been.— Rut, virtually; the Democratic party will, for - a time, be vri.thout opposition in every Southern State. This great Slavery party, then, will only need a little help from the - Korth to maintain its ascendancy in the nation.elhe party heretofore called Whig, weakened by its offshoots, will meet Its antagonist in the next contest with these fear, ful odds. If the opponents of Slavery extension would but marshal themselves under one banner, and as one party, the battle would not be doubt fuL Sat if there are be, as heretofore, -Lib erty parties, and Independent Democratic par ties, then the contest. may _as well be yielded at once without an effort. The real opponents of the repeal of the Missouri Compromise here, those who-regard it as only the initiatory step to still greater outrages, are fora united and do termined resistance, now and ever. Whether they are to bemustained by the . people remain . to be tested. 2918-11LAI:H. LIST OF TILAITOILS. . By trickery and fraud concocted between Olds, of Ohio, an ever reliable tool of Shivery, and Stephens, of Ga., a malignitnt enemy of freedom at all times and in every shape, the right of de bate and the:opportunity to amend the bill were both suppressed : Mut . , hiken* away. Stephens moved to strike:out thecnacting clause of the bill which, if suciesaful, eut off all further proceed loge in Committee, and brought the House to a direct vote upon the bill. There were for this andacions trick 102 &des. The other side re fused to vote, but Olds decided without a me- ment's hesitation that the motion did not re quire a gnornm and that a minority could trans act brininess as well as a quorum of the House. Of course this, decision WO3, an unadulterated outrage upon thesules add the practice of the House; hut it answered the prirpose--and the bill wait placed la the blouse, and under the control of the pre ions question.
