Thursday night's nrgument at Music Ilnli between Jack McAullffe and Tommy Ryan, of Philadelphia, seems to be arousing more than usual public interest. William Leslie, of Pittston, one of the best Informed sporting writ ers In this region, has this to say In his letter to the Elnvlru Telegram con cerning the contest: And Jnck MclAullffo, tho retired light weight champion of tho world, has con sented to box Tommy Ryan, of Philadel phia, ten rounds at Music hall, Scranton, next Thursday night, under tho auspices of the American Sporting club. Every sport in this section Is more or less fa miliar with Jack's pugilistic record, but very few aro aware of tho fact that Ryan recently obtained a decision In threo rounds over that erratic, but nevertheless celebrated Australian, "Grlffo." Jack McAullffo Is conceded to be tho cleverest man that over put up his hands In a twenty-four foot ring, while It must bo admitted that tho man who whipped "Grlffo" in three rounds is no tyro. Conse quently, I look for a inttling scientific go. To give a boxing contest between two such famous men, entails the payment of no little money to tho winner and the American club would hardly risk llnanclal loss were it not for the be lief that 1,200 spectators, the seating capacity of Music Hall, will gather to see nyan nnu me champion decide tholr superiority. "PIOdY" WARD IN TOWN. Scrnuton's Kx-Sccond Hnscmnn Will Hibernate in This City. Frank Ward, familiarly and better known by the sentimentally affection ate sobriquet of "Piggy." Is in the city, after his summer campaign with the Lancaster club of the Atlantic league, which, under his captaincy, made the world's record of winning twenty-two straight games. His team, of course, won the pen nant, and when the averages are made up he will likely be found among the top notches In the striking column and at the very top notch among the sec ond basemen, nt which position our friend of tho porcine cognomen dis ported himself. "Piggy" will hibernate here. SATURDAY FOOT BALL GAMES. Cornoll-Ctilgntc. Cornell defeated Colgato at foot ball Saturday afternoon G-0. In ten minutes after play began tho ball was pushed through Colgate's center for a down and a goal was kicked. Scoro: Cornell, G; Colgate, 0. Time was called with the ball on Colgate's ten-yard line. In tho sec ond half Cornell sent out a team com prised principally of substitutes. Tho playing was mostly In tho center of the field and In Cornell's territory, but tho gamo closed with the ball on Colgate's thirty-yard line, neither side scoring. U. orP.-Frnnkliii und ."Unrshull.
