Adjourned THE BRIDGE ACROSS THE SCHITYL SILL case of the Cheetnut-street Bricge Caine before Judges Lowrie, Woodwerd i Thompson, and strong, yesterday, the port wardens being pitted against the city. In both cases injunctions were filed to prevent the city of Philadelphia from constructing the bridge over the Elchuslkill river at tatestnut street, according to the plan proposed. The allegation in both hills is, that a bridge with a pier in the centre of the flyer will °hairnet the navigation. In the argument, it was urged that the city was exceeding the powers granted for - the construc tion of the bridge, in proposing a structure which will cost at least half a million of dollars instead of $lOO , OOO, as specified in the act of Assembly. The city denied the authority of the port wardens to extind to the [(team:lion of bridged, and it it detnifid that the one pier proposed will obstruct the navigation. Although placed in the middle of the river, it is not in the centre of the channel William Knees, the chief engineer of the city, in his affidavit, sets forth that the plan adopted for the Midge was adopted in view of the danger Of "Welling Water" cti 'Ow works at Fairm mot i that two pit rs would (instruct The navigation more than one, as one would be on a rock foundation, and the other wools; have to be placed askew to avoid piles, which would have to be driven in au insecure foundation. MR. T, MORRIS PEROT, the president of the Mercantile Library Company, is now distributing to the soldiers, at the army hospitals in this city, its sur plus newspapers. The city papers, and others, though from distant States, being from the neighborhood of the homes of some of the readers, have served to cheer them. But it is thought that a more varied and extensive litera ture should be provided tor the occupation of the tedious Lours of convalescence, and as utmost all families have old boobs or periodicals thrown aside as useless, they can certainly make no briter disposition of them than by do nating then. for the use of our sick and wounded soldiers. If, therefore. any of our citizens will send to the rooms of the Mercantile Library Company such books, magazines, or pamphlets (no matter how small their value) as they may wish to devote to this beneficent purpose, the same will be distributed to the Tattoos army hospitals, under instructions from the officers of the company, in such manner as they shall deem likely to produce the most satisfactory results. Since the hospital has become more comfort able, and we have a good steward. I have had more time to look into the quarters, and see the condition of our men there. Most of them were entirely withost stock• ings, and being obliged to be on scouting parties out on the prairies this bitter cold weather, their feet and bands are badly frosted. A DEAD BOLY IN TFIE SUPREME Cocar.—A case bas transpired before the Supreme Court, during the past few days, involving the custody of the remains of Colonel Francis M. Wynkoop, of Schuylkill county. Col. Wynkoop died of a gunshot wound in th winter of 180. His body, very shot by after his decease, was removed to the residence of his brother-In-law, Thomas J. Atwood, at Pottsville, in said county, and from There heilio in gop n t Inure!. Cemetery, in the bo rough of Pottsville, with military honors The mother of the decease d wee instrumented in said interment, but the widow of the deceased yield.-1 a reluctant assent. Seine time after the burial she made arrangements fo , the removal of the body to PhilaeOphia, and this coming to the ears of Mrs. Angeline Wynkoop, the mother, she, in writing, ropers:eel one of the wardens of Trinity Church, Pntlsvillo. le forbid any tee.iyabil of opaitia , of the ground, in any way, in her lot in Mount Laurel Co. metery. Allegations were filed by the opposite parties on the one side that Col. Wyukoop bad desired to be buried at Pottsville i on the other that he desired to be buried in Philadelphia. On behalf of the widow it was urged that the question of property in the remains is totally irrelevant to the real question. No right of property. therefore, is neces sarily claimed or exercised in the more change of burial place, and, in reply to the allegation of property in the lot, it was contended that the appellant has but an ease feCl4 in the burial lntr the legal tide ITeing Yeeted in the officers or the corporation of Trinity Church, who are the custodians of the cemetery, and make no objection. The right andduty of burial is in the admiuistratrix. To select the spot for his final resting place, therefore, is ne cessarily included in her right to bury, and this right can neither be barred, waived, or abandoned by II temporary interment, with or without the promites of the relatives on the atibjett. WHAT IS "NEEDED AT TIIE WIRE Rfanaes —ln ell the repairs that hare been Isiah to the Wire Bridge within the past qu trter of a century, the point to which it is necessary to direct attention has been invariably neglected. We allude to the fastenings of the cable-ends in the earth, for upon these the stability of the structure of course depends in foto If the cables at their point of ottitcloovni im.Y9 become meted or decay edt it is vitally important that the defect should be rrutuaicil at once. We are informed that Mr. Jelin Lentz, a former watchman of the bridge, had constructed a do suction pipe, for the purpose of drawing oil the water front the vaults covering the attachments, co they might always be kept moderately free flout dampness. Whetner the vaults Imre been - pumped out within the last two years (saws Nr. Lentz's truth) we cannot say. We can with c.o.d. deuce, however, say that within that period there has been no investigation into the condition of the cables at this point. POLICY DEALERS.--John 'Knorr, I'. Some of them answer in special cases, but more often thevehicle neutralizes the usual effect of the Oil, proving quite as unpalatable and of lees therapeutic value. The repug nance, nausea, itc., to invalids, induced by disgust of the. Oil, is entirely obviated by the use of our CAPSULES. COP-LIVER 0/1, CAPSULES have been much need lateip in Europe, the experience there of the goodlre• suits from their nee in both hospital and private 'medico, aside from the naturally suggested advantages, are suf ficient to warrant our claiming the virtues we do for them, feeling assured their use will result in benefit and deserved favor.
