OUR WAR CORRESPONDENCE. From Murray's Eighty-fourth P. Y. CAMP CHAPS, Paw-Paw, February 17, 1562 [Correspondence of The Press.] I wrote from Cumberland, Maryland. As it has not appeared in the columns of your paper, I take it for granted it has nut come to hand; I will there fore give you an account of our march since we left Cumberland, en the 16th Jardary. We left Cumberland for North Branch Bridge, distant seven miles; we arrived there early the same cycling, and pitched our tents in the snow and mud. Whilst at this point the regiment was bri gaded by order of General Lander. Our regiment is in the first Brigade. The brigade consists of the following regiments : Fourteenth Indiana, Colonel Kimball, senior colonel commanding brigade; -Seventh Virginia, Colonel Evans; Sixty-second Ohio, Colonel road ; Eighty-fourth Pennsylvania, 'Colonel Murray ; Thirteenth Indiana, Colonel 'Sullivan. On the 4th February, the regiment re ceived marching orders. Colonel Murray had been absent for a few days in Cumberland, with a severe attack of inflammatory rheumatism ; notwithstand ing this, be was soon in the saddle, (against the advice of his physician,) and on the ground ready to lead his regiment. His arrival at camp was bailed with delight, as his men are greatly attached to him. Wherever he goes they will follow, and he does not ask them to go anywhere where he will not lead. On the morning of the sth the paymaster ar rived. You may be certain his coming was hailed with joy, as be was the first one we had seen. We left camp early on the morning of the Gth ; destina tion down the railroad. On our arrival at Green Spring run, the ir on. horse gave out. The Colonel immediately o7deTed us into line, and formed the column, when we marched for French's store, pass ing over the bridge that spans the south branch of the Potomac—distance ten m les. Here we bivou acked for the night, in the open field ; remained in the same pleasant situation until Saturday after noon, the Bth, when, agreeably to orders, we took up our line of march for Paw-Paw, distant seven miles, where we arrived about six P. M., crossing the Little Cacapon on our way. Here we again bivouacked for the night; weather elver and old all day Sunday and Sunday night, and late on Monday we had the same fine ground for our beds, and the starry canopy for a cover. On Monday /the train conveying our tents arrived, and Monday night we slept under their cover, the first for five nights_ Thick of this, you ttgay Home Guards,” who are the delight of the foolish girls and little boys at home—by your gaudy uniforms, hugo whiskers, and greased mustachios; that kind of service, me thinks, would take the starch out of you. We are momentarily expecting an order from , Old Fear 'Not," Lander ; that will put us where all hero deaire to be—in close proximity to the troops of Secessia. We are exceedingly anxious to make the acquaint ance of some of the F. F. V.'s, of this sacred mil— led luck to them. I wonder if it is sacred as far down as a chap's foot goes—about sixteen inches in the afternoon, and nary an inch in the morning. On Thursday last several detachments of our brigade, under the command of Gen. Lander is person, paid a camp of the Secesh a visit, at a place, cross roads, I believe, called Bloamery, Fur nace. " Old Fear-naught" dashed in sword in hand, cutting right and left. We killed and wounded some forty of the enemy—also taking some sixty prisoners, amongst them many officers of rank. They were sent to Cumberland. The Baltimore end Ohio Railroad is now open and clear east of Hancock, and we soon will clear all the rebels out of this neck of timber, Winchester, and wlerever we are ordered to gg. tt Old Fear-naught's" name is a terror to Ssees tia—and wall they map foot him ; if ho is allowed to have his own way and is not curbed, he will make a history that can be read with interest. We have as adjutant of the Eighty-fourth, a welt-'known Philadelphian, Lieut. Thos. H. Craig, nephew of Hugh Harrold, >♦sq,, of Third street, Ile is a splendid officer, a perfect gentleman, and good soldier. You may well be proud of such representatives. More anon, KEYSTONE. Letter from the IT. S. Ship Pawnee [Correspondence of The Press,) UNITED STATES Snip PAWNEE, OFF TYREE ISLAND, GA , Feb. 15, 1852. A few days since the U. S. steamer Rhode Mond arrived at this place, from Philadelphia, bringing a box of many articles so necessary to the comfort of men who lead a life of the greatest exposure. In this donation the sick and wounded were not forgotten, for, stowed amongst these gifts, were lint and many other utilities for the medical department. Accompanying was a neat note, written in a deli cate female hand, stating that " To the loyal tars of the Pawnee these articles were presented by Nome of the ladies of Philadelphia." That these presents were most acceptable it will be needless to say, and the fair givers would have been thrice blessed could they have seen the joy ous faces of the flattered and grateful recipients. On the banner of the Pawnee are already in scribed "Acquia creek," " Matthias Point," " Hat teras," and + Port Royal ;" an& while the ladies of our country remain true to the flag that has borne our nation to its present greatness, neither the sailors of this ship, nor of the whole navy, will be found wanting in their determination to carry that dear old ensign through more pictgriga in the glorious cause of the Union. A SAILOR OF THE PAWNEE Letter from Florida. [co trt zlc.nce of The Pct .:I's.] KEY WEn t ) Headquarters Forty-seventh Reg% P. V., Friday, February 7th, 1862. The Press circulates far and wide in the world, and reaching, as it does, every locality in Pennsyl vania interested in the acts and movements of the officers and =en of the noble Forty-seventh Regi ment of Pennsylvania volunteers, I hasten to com municate through it to all our friends our pleasant voyage " o'er the rolling deep " and safe arrival in the harbor of the beautiful island and town of Key West, Florida, and, by special request of many friends of the regiment, I subjoin a brief outline of its history. The Forty-seventh Regiment Pennsylvania vo- unteers entered into the service of the Government n the 17th of September, 1861. After this it was ordered by the War Department to Washington, and thence across the river, and was connected with the army of the Potomac, General Smith's division, Third Brigade. The regiment null/hers over a thousand men, rank and file ; is well-officered, well-disciplined, well-. armed, and fully equipped. It is composed of Strong, stalwart men, and is emphatically one of the best regiments in service. In obedience to an order from the War Depart ment, it left Camp Griffin, Virginia, on Wednesday, January 22d, proceeding to Annapolis, Md., and from that place embarked on the steamship Orien tal, en Monday, the 27th nit, at 4 o'clock P. M., 'with fair wind and tide, the glorious ensign of the Republic waving over them, and the stirring notes of martial music inspiring the scene. After a safe and pleasant voyage of seven days it arrived in the harbor of the beautiful island and town of Key West, Florida. It left Camp Griffin in the dead of winter, the ground, tents, and trees whitened with snow, and in less then two weeks came to Key Woat, into midsummer, with. trees and grass green, and 4/ flowers and roses blooming. A great change, in deed, in so short a space of time. When the Oriental arrived at the harbor of Key West, previous to disembarking the officers of the regiment called a meeting, to express their senti• =ants towards the officers and crew of the noble The following is a correct copy of the preamble and resolutions passed at this meeting : ON BOARD TUR STRAIISRIP ORIENTAL, Harbor or Sty Wtot, Florida, Tuviulay morning, Febraerr 4 , 1002. Tuzo had a sumptuous repast prepared for the officers of our regiment, which was served np in handsome style ; and the invited guests heartily enjoyed themselves and keenly relished the many choice dainties prepared for them on the occasion. Our officers and men are in excellent health and spirits, ever ready and willing to discharge the duties imposed upon them. We have only eight inttAlias in the hospital, of whom all are conva lescent save one, and even in his case our surgeons entertain hopes. We have great reason, as a regiment, to thank God for his mercy and watchful care over us. Our highly esteemed colonel is commander of this post, until Gen. Brannan arrives. There are two _other regiments here besides ours—the New York Ninetieth and Ninety-first. Other° are still ex pected. I should much like to go, in detail in describing more minutely our regiment, the harbor, beautiful island, and town of Key West. But as our mail will close in a few moments, I must hasten to close, and reserve for a future article much that will be interesting to the readers of The Press. The sentiment which pervades every mind and heart in the Forty-seventh Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers is that— " The star that lighta our Union Shall never set! Though fierce may be the conflict, We'll gait' the victory yet" And our song shall ever be— ‘• Our fathers' God ! to thee, Author of Liberty ! To thee we sing: Long may our land be bright With Freedom's holy light, Protect us by thy might, Great God! our King! MISCELLANEOUS WAR NEWS. It has determined to furniSllno Plans, butte leave the submission of them to the constructors, in order to develop the latent ingenuity in designs best cal culated for effective purposes, and the Department will make its selections accordingly. General Scott Going to Mexico. The Washington correspondent of the New York Tribune says Washington's birthday was chosen for the nomi- Nation to the Senate of General Winficl4l Scott as minister extraordinary to Mexico, with, as is said, functions such as he exercised in the pacification of the northeastern-boundary question. Accompanying this nomination, the project of a treaty went into the Senate, whose principal feature was substan tially the assumption of the Mexican debt due to England, France, and Spain. The interest on this amounts to three millions a year. The treaty gua ranties our payment of it for five years. There is no law for the appointment of an assistant minister to Mexico, or any I)qm - country. As commissioner, Gen. Scott's nomination would be Confirmed by the Senate, particularly if his functions should be limited to the pacification of the armed quarrel conspired against Mexico at a moment wnen we could not defend the Monroe doctrine and go to her help. But it it MY deillittiAl if the Senate , will favor the scheme or buying off England, France, and Spain, for live years or for life. Military Movements. Unless people in this city are very much mis taken, something important is about to transpire of ruilitary movements_ Two weeks certainly will not pass without something being done. It is be lieved by many that our army is already in motion. The roads are still very bad, though they have lat terly improved somewhat. I may here state that, bad Gen. McClellan determined to advance, the condition of the roads would not have been an im pediment. G LUTEN CAPSULES OF PURE COD-LIVER The repugnance of most patients to COD-LIVSB OIL, and the inability of many to take it at all, has in duced VIIITIOIIII forms got disguise for its ssbuluistrullen that are familiar to the Medical Profeaskon. Some of them answer in special cases, but more often the neutralizes the usual effect of the Oil, proving Smite as unpalatable and of less therapenfic value. The repug nance, nausea, its., to invalids, induced by disgust of the Oil, is entirely obviated by the use of our CAPSULES. OOP-LIVER OIL CA.PSULP.EL have been much newt lately in Europe, the experience there of the goodore sults from their use in both hospital and private practide aside from the naturally suggested advantages, are sae icient to warrant our claiming the virtues we do for them, feeling assured their use will result in benefit and deserved favor.
